I'm seriously considering picking up the MAB 3 but had some ?? about the pickups.. Are the Dean DMT design pickups good??? I've not been able to hear soundbytes of them(except for youtube--and the guy using them is going through a cheap combo) so I can't gauge how good they are.
I know some mid level guitars put in cheaper pickups to save on cost and make it more affordable, but if these DMT designs are great... then I'm going to pick one up...
Thanks, Andy

well.. I thought I'd let everyone on here know.. I finally got a reply back from Dean guitars about the Dean DMT design pickup on the MAB3. Below is the answer I got from the same question I posted above: sorry for delay, pickups are made for metal in the angelo gtrs, but to keep price down they r not usa pickups, but will shred and make u sound like metal. they do sound like his pickups Tony Purnell Product Specialist Dean Guitars 4924 West Waters Ave. Tampa, Florida 33634 www.deanguitars.comtony@deanguitars.com Toll Free: 866-857-1982 voice 813-936-6409 fax I was seriously considering buying this guitar and still may at some point. But without USA pickups in them, I'll have to reconsider. If I did buy the MAB3, I'd have to yank the pickups out and put in ones that I like(from the USA), thus jacking up the investment from $399 to about $500-$600. Andy

I saw one of these MAB3 at guitar center about a week ago. It looked to be very similar to the MAB1 in design. But I have only seen pictures of the MAB1 and MAB2. The MAB3 looked to be a pretty good buy for the price considering......
Both guitars feature the same equipment minus the REAL floyd, EMG's, hard case and body decal. Both have grover tuners, block inlay, alder body and maple neck.
So where is the $900 difference? Probably the neck. I would bet the MAB1 has better fret job (polishing, filing etc). Wood selection for the neck, probably less flaws in the wood. Also the MAB3 is probably not a MAB spec neck, size etc
I would buy it and swap pickups, or look for a used MAB1. there was one on ebay the otherday for 799

Don't be so sure about that. You can find those USA made DMT pickups fora fraction of the cost on ebay or the Dean Forum. I'd say go ahead and buy the MAB-3. If you like the DMT-designed pickups then there ya go. If you don't, you can always upgrade to the DMTs. Also, if you're a member of Dean Owners of America (DOA), you can buy them for pretty low price. As BKW, MAB, Sendhelp and Thirdasian can confirm, I get a bunch of those pickups everytime I go to DOA.

OH it does have a real floyd? Hmmm i thought it said "special" floyd which to me usually screams out "licensed"!!!,
I also see now that the MAB3 also has a rosewood fretboard and not the ebony like on the MAB1
i stand corrected

I believe the difference in the price range is the quality of the wood, the floyd rose, and the pick ups.
