Hi Michael,
I'm very interested in knowing how many hours a day in your longest practice sessions of your life were spent playing at your maximum speed or spent trying to play faster than your maximum speed at the time.
In comparison, how many hours of one of those practice sessions would be spent working on technique but playing at only moderate or slow speeds?
Do you believe there is a maximum percentage of one's practice time one should spend playing at maximum speed and a corresponding percentage of that day's practice that should be spent playing at moderate or even slow speeds? I'm referring to experienced players who have over years built up the ability to play for 3 or 4 hours a day spent strictly working on playing as fast and as clean as possible in an effort to break through to a new level of speed.
