There's something that may be you have already watched it Will Jay, but it'll be interesting to post it here.
Paco, John and Al in more mature days talking about the realising of the trio album (with bits of playing of course). A must see.
PD: I didn't know Paco could speak english!
EDIT: OOOf i forgot to post the link!:

I meant John>Al>Paco over everything i've ever heard from all 3, not just the solos Dynamics are easier to do with fingers than a pick though, but as musicians Joh is the best for me. Plus he's english! So there Von, in your spanish face! Get back to us after a year of playing flamenco or classical. W/ a pick you only care about one note, and its easy as *** to control 1 note's dynamics on any acoustic, no matter how you play. Either way, they're all pretty awesome

If it was that easy, alot more shredders would be using dynamics since most listen to a degree of classical.
Yeah, either way John is the best! Lol.

But did you see the vid by Paco i posted with some close ups at the final where he uses his thumb nail like a double pick? For sure you cannot learn that on a degree of music excepting some thesis for that purpose.

Yeah i watched the vid (3 times).
Paco is the exception though, surely.
I aint that up on my flamenco & Paco is the only player in that genre i have cd's of, but i doubt every single flamenco player is as good as him.
If they are, i need to stock up on my flamenco cd's baby!!!!
BTW- I meant classical as in the 300 years from the Baroque to end of Romantic period music, not classical guitar.

Have a listen to Sabica, Eugenio Martinez and Jose Fernandez Torres "Tomatito". The last one played with the legend singer "cantaor" Camaron de la Isla, who was one of the first in fusion rock with flamenco. Anyways i'm not in that kind of "hard" flamenco. I prefer the vastly oriented music of Paco.

Well, here's another vid where Paco displays his triple picking "flesh" (adding the thumb to the triad) playin arpeggiated chords (in the beginning of the vid). Sorry for the quality of the video - the sound isn't in synchronization with the video frames-, but the sounds says it all:

And flamenco players as good as... probably not. But in terms of overall standard, Flamenco is probably higher than any other genre. You have to BURN to be considered competent in flamenco.

Well shredders can & do use palm muting to help with dynamics but on distorted it's quite hard to get dynamics.
On clean tone, it's fine as well as acoustic, but on distortion it's hard.
I would say Fusion is the highest standard genre of guitar based music.
