Okay guys, I am nearly in tears writing this, haha, seriously. This was my first REAL guitar and my first REAL love too. I started life as an Ibanez RG2550e in 2005 (I think).
I have had several modifications done by a pro, well-respected luthier.
The Mods
Deep scallop on frets 14 to 24
Jumbo frets to give an even greater scalloped feel
Fingerboard 'stressing.' A cool process which simulates the feel of a 'vintage' fingerboard. The fingerboard is sanded and altered slightly to feel like you are playing an older instrument. Old instruments FEEL nice
Neck sanded to remove lacquer (the lacquer commonly causes hands to 'stick' when you are playing and get sweaty.
Complete re-wiring internally
New fret-markers put in place
Custom mirror pick guard and plates installed to give a 'JEM' look.
Partial tremolo-block. The tremolo goes all the way down, but only a half step up. This is to improve sustain and to help the guitar hold its tuning. This can very easily be reversed for a full tremolo setup.
This guitar really is beautiful as I know you all agree haha. It looks fantastic, plays fantastic, and the Ibanez/Dimarzio pick-ups were surprisingly good back a few years ago, though I guess most of you would want to replace them.
The Negatives
This guitar has had a lot of playing time for several years and then locked away for a year or so. I took the guitar out and spent all day setting it up and re-stringing it.
There are quite a few paint chips around the body where the paint has been worn away. Personally I think this looks great and gives the guitar some real character, though others may wish to get the body re-painted.
Like I said, I set up the guitar but I am far from being a pro. The guitar will arrive to you ready to play out of the box (probably require slight tuning) but to get the best out of this instrument I STRONGLY recommend a professional setup and possibly a fret-crown as fret fourteen is looking slightly worn and chokes out occasionally.
A setup and fret crowning should cost no more than 80 - 100 pounds
It is important to note that some of the hardware is slightly oxidised/rusted, this does not effect playability and can easily be cleaned by soaking the parts in vinegar.
I am really, really sad to see this guitar go but I am really struggling for cash at the moment and I am flooded in bills that need paying urgently. That said, because this guitar means so much to me and is truly a one-of-a-kind axe I am not going to let this go for pennies.
So, let's try starting at £700 shipped in the UK. I am open to offers or partial trades etc. but the item would need to be really tempting to avoid accepting the cash instead. An Ibanez high-quality hard-case is included in the sale.
PICTURES: Sorry for the poor quality, I'm no photographer.
Full shut (damn light flare)
Mmmm mirror...
DEEP scallop
Another full shot
There are many paint 'chips' like this one around the outside of the body. It adds to the 'old' feel, this is a guitar with a story.
