As the title says,I am looking for MAB's under/over patterns,I've already learned the 2 from speed lives 1 and the 1 from star licks (call to arms riff) and I feel really great using that technique so why not learn more! Im aware there are many songs with open strings but I gotta admit honestly-I can hardly learn a half, then I get bored and im back to MAB stuff. I am especially interested in the 'extended' versions of 2nd No Boundaries u/o pattern that are shown on the star licks video (MAB band in country club 1987). From what I remember Michael 'stole' (not trying to offend,Michael said so himself) that pattern from Gary Moore's "end of the world" Another pattern I am really interested in is the fastest u/o performance that I've ever seen-speed kills revisited-prog performance.
If you've got any other pattern-I'll gladly try it out! Ofcourse I prefer the ones that MAB uses in his songs/improvisations because for some reason if I hear/see Michael playing it-its a great motivation for me and I cant just forget about it.
Thanks in advance!

I do the over-under a lot, maybe I can tab out some of my patterns.
One good pattern off the top of my head is from the intro to the solo on the song "Play with me" by "Extreme", it's a pedal tone lick that comes from classical music, and sounds really cool.

I really don't see the point of people other than Mike using the over-under technique.
It makes really simple lines 10x harder to play & even if you can use the trick, is just a rip-off of another guitarist (who incidentally uses it for live shows, clinics & DVD releases ONLY).
I think it'd be best to spend the time you would do learning how to play simple open-string pedal licks using a party trick- which isn't even your creation- on coming up with your own musical lines or even your OWN trick to use in live situations.
The over-under works for Mike because he is the guy who invented it (and can actually play fast lines cleanly using it) which adds a showmanship element to his shows/clinics/DVD's (always a good thing!) but I cringe every time I see someone else attempt to use it (unless they're copying Mike's performances from dvd's "as is").

I fully understand you but no worries! Im just an amateur who really enjoys using it.I highly doubt I'll be ever playing in front of someone (im getting too nervous whoever is watching me) and I am just not talented enough (also not enough time to practice) to become a musician.Im not using it to show-off,it just provides alot of satisfaction to me once I manage to play a pattern. So,unless you spy me in my room, theres nothing to worry about, haha

I don't see any harm in using it, a lot of people play over the neck, swing their guitars, jump around on stage and do other things that other people came up with. It's more of a tribute than trying to rip somebody off. A lot of people play with their teeth and behind their head, and it's not like they immediately stop paying attention because the person playing isn't the real Jimmy Hendrix or anyone else.. Everyone taps now, they're not forbidden from doing it because they aren't Eddie Van Halen. Anyways like you said it is a good party trick and is fun to do if you can pull it off correctly. Besides, it's not always about hitting the notes cleanly, MAB did a column in guitar world about the over-under, and showed a few licks, and admitted and showed that sometimes he goes into 'warp speed' for the fun of it..

thank you, thats a very interesting lesson.I'll try to tab those patterns myself
I tabbed the 2nd pattern, didnt took me too long, its looks pretty much the same as the 2nd over-under in No Boundaries just with more open strings and one difference. Ill post it soon incase someone is interested and try to work on the 1st pattern however I guess its gonna take way more time...
e12-0-0-0-10-0-0-0-8-0-0-0-7-0-0-0---------------------------------------- B -----------------------------------------10-0-0-0-8-0-0-0-7-0-0-0-5-0-0-0
G 7-0-0-0-5-0-0-0-4-0-0-0----------------------------------------- D -------------------------------7-0-0-0-5-0-0-0-4-0-0-0-2-0-0-0
A 5-0-0-0-3-0-0-0-2-0-0-0------------------------------------------- E -------------------------------5-0-0-0-3-0-0-0-3-0-0-0-2-0-0-0--
and the ending chord is
D 2 A 2 E 0
I hope someone will find it usefull! Also,I would appreciate if someone more experienced could take a quick look on it,I think this is correct but as I mentioned above,im a beginner so I might have made a mistake or few. This tab is for the part thats starts at 3:52 (SendHelp's link).
Oh,well...I would really appreciate some help with the pattern at 2;10.This is way too fast for my unexperienced ear

Ah it's just for fun S-H. That's a big part of playing the guitar; cutting loose and having a little fun. I, admittedly, have never really tried it.

How about balancing on your head whilst playing guitar.
I've seen the "crab" but never a player doing a headstand whilst ripping.

LOL this is exactly why I've never even attempted to spin any of my guitars, you never know what's going to happen
