I have a 7 string guitar w/ a floyd rose tremelo
And everything seems to be fine, the bridge is level, the neck is straight. In standard tuning.
Except on the D String, once higher than the 12th fret, the notes become progressively sharper. at the 17th fret and beyond, it's just terrible, and there's some buzz in that area too.
This is only on the D string - I am baffled.
any help?

Have you intonated it?

Try messing around with the action on your bridge, you may have it too low. I had a similar problem once before with my 7 string and I ended up messing around with the action so that the bridge is a little lopsided but the action is perfect for shredding and little to no buzzing of any kind. I keep the low B side up a little above the surface of the actual guitar and I keep the E side a tad bit below the surface of the guitar if you want to try the way I have mine set up.

Place a block in you brodge so it's level. then tune your guitar. Find out which frets are all out of tune (take note of them). Then loosen your strings and adjust the sliding postition of the each of the un-intonated strings (closer to the neck or away) Make slight adjustments untill you find the sweet spot. I hope this helps. I do this 2-3 times a week setting up guitars for people.
