Anyone know a decent beginners guitar? It's for a friend, and it has to stay in tune longer than 30 seconds ;-)

Totally depens on the budget. Give a number and it's easier to give a decent recommendation.
Tuning stability will mostly depend on the nut, providing the bridge is properly constructed. I would stay away from tremolo bridges on cheap guitars.

Well I have an Ibanez Gio. and its decent enough, I'll say. For acoustic, Takamine! Damn, they are good!

Let'say €300-€500. And yes a tremolo is a big no on cheap guitars!

There are some really nice Deans that would qualify.

Thats a decent budget, if I were him (you?) I would suggest to look at the secondhand market, you could make some great deals there with that budget. Have you tried Schecter? They make some good cheap guitars. I don't know about Dean, I haven't tried their Korean guitars but it seems like they are at the same level as Schecter, LTD etc. But look for a Ibanez Prestige, if you're lucky you could get one for €500. Have you tried the RGA121? It's a good guitar which has been discontinued but they pop up now and then for sale. I actually know one for €500 but it's located in Sweden unfortunately. I would try to find one. There's loads of other guitars also, if he (you?) don't have a problem with older guitars. With a limited budget you always get better stuff when you go for used stuff But if he can't wait, check out the Korean made guitars, stay away from Indonesia guitars. I know there's some guitars which is being made there now that supposedly have better quality than ever. Ibanez Premium series might be the exception of the rule, they're made in Indonesia. But I would stay away from older models made in that country.

I think you'll be lucky to get 1 of the good Schecters for 500 Euros tbh. Their low level stuff is pretty poor.
I would stay away from LTD's. You will probably find 9 crap for evey 1 good LTD guitar. Their quality control is poor by all accounts, even relative to other MIK guitars- which says alot! Lol. They're also the most overpriced guitars on the market imo.
EDIT: Also, since your friend is just starting out, I would avoid trem guitars altogether- even MIJ RG's. They are too much hassle.

I would get a fixed bridge Ibanez RG for starting out. This is the fixed bridge version of one of my absolute favorite guitars, the Ibanez RG350DX . This version is basically the same just with a fixed bridge. www.ibanez.com/ElectricGuitars/model-RG351DXAlso check out the Fender Squier Classic Vibe series. If you are into the Strat look or sound at all they're very cool for a great price. A lot of the Strat heads who own really expensive Strats seem to be liking these a lot.
