When I joined this forum in 2005, there were LOTS of posts every single day by a lot of different people. It was a fresh, vibrant place with plenty of activity and plenty of steadily contributing members. For several years it remained just like that. Then a few years ago it started getting quieter. "260" Jim Gillette who had his own section of the forum for questions directed to him had as much activity on his one section of the forum as the whole forum does these days! But he left. Then a lot of the old posts were deleted. All the posts, all the questions and answers in the ask Jim Gillette section were deleted.
i don't think the decease in activity is due solely to Jim Gillette leaving the forum. It's just an example of how busy this place used to be. Does anybody have any why there is so much less posting and so many less people that post regularly here?

I think it probably due to Facebook and Twitter. Social networking sites have become incredibly popular over the last few years and I dont know anyone who doesn't have a facebook account. You can get regular news updates, photos etc from there. I noticed that Michael communicates more on facebook than in here, people are naturally going to go to facebook to speak to him and make comments. Jim Gillette has his own fan page too. That’s my theory, anyway.

You are right. Social media has made forums less popular than they used to me, but I still love this forum and the people involved! Thanks for everyone's continued support. :-)

On the contrary, this forum has always been very active compared to others I've signed up to and I'd say it is still fairly active. Vinnie Moore's forum isn't even active online anymore sadly.

I look at it this way: I rather have a forum where people are nice, than a forum that has constant feeds of crap

I remember when these same people had MySpace accounts and now don't have anything to do with MySpace. I wonder what will be the next big thing that will make Facebook obsolete in a similar way like how Facebook made MySpace obsolete? I think this forum is superior for its purpose than Facebook is for trying to replace this forum. I prefer the format that this forum has much better than the format Facebook allows. This is more complete and everything is in it's own section. I also like the way it gathers people together who are not necessarily part of your "Facebook friend list" and the way we get to meet people on this forum whom we otherwise wouldn't have met. I became good friends with someone after we met on this forum and noticed we had a lot of things in common.

Most of my relatives have a facebook account and it is usefull because at the moment we are all living some distance from each other, so for that purpose it is a good thing for me. I also support 2 dog rescue charities in Serbia and Bulgaria and its easier for me to keep up with what's going on from their facebook pages. I sponsor a dog too and get to see how he's doing. I also have MABs fan page on my account now and its nice to keep up with what he's doing. Apart from the above reasons, I'm not that crazy about facebook. Like you I really do prefer the forum on here and I hope that more people join and start posting more again. Its great that you have made friends on here, at least you know your going to find people who have the same interests.

I look at it this way: I rather have a forum where people are nice, than a forum that has constant feeds of crap That's exactly what I was about to say. I'd rather have a forum with a few nice people that only speak to say something that is really worth reading, than a forum full of spammers, people arguing and people filling it with empty and meaningless posts. I love everyone on this forum, and as this is where I go to escape from my daily problems, I consider all of you my family. We all have the same love and dedication to music in general and specially MAB's music. And when opinions differ on this forum, people always discuss it with respect for each other, and I really like that.

Personally, I just have been dealing with allot of on going stuff. I am not one to bring personal things onto the net. I'll discuss about anything, but, when I have deep down grinding emotions.. I just tend to shut down. I am on facebook allot despite myself. Mainly, just to enter contests and keep up with lots of going ons.. rather then belonging to some many forums. But, I don't communicate there like I do here... just throw out a few words at most on peoples posts... it is kinda like mindless TV for me in someways, lol! I m going to work on that, thou! I kind of miss the personal touch so to speak.. and really getting to know people... on facebook I am very distant.. so it lacks that for me. Now that I have somethings figured out that I really needed to sort out.. Well, I guess in truth I didn't show much figure them out as a new way was shown to me and I finally got the signs and hint, lol! I am hoping to be here a little more. But I am always up for talk on there as well. If anyone wants my facebook page.. just pm me. I am on there allot during the day.. nights I try to reserve for the kiddo.
