I saw this advert on TV a few weeks back with a mab double guitar and wondered if it was real one or a prop. It opens up like a book!

It looks like the real one to me! Wow! I bet they had to pay MAB some good money to be allowed to use that for their commercial. Do you remember the name of the TV network you saw this on?

I'm sure I saw it on ITV channel. I remember reading on the interenet somewhere that they were only shown in the UK. I wondered if Michael had copyrighted his double guitar design too and if they needed permision to use it.

I would think he has copyrighted the design of it as well as trademarked the likeness (the image) of it as well, so they most likely paid him to use it but I have no way of knowing for sure unless Michael sees this and answers it. I was thinking it probably was not shown in America because as far as I know it's illegal to advertise liquor on TV in The USA. You can advertise wine and beer but not alcohol and not tobacco products on TV.

It is not one of MAB's. He has never had one that 'opens like a book'. More importantly, the angle is all wrong. Michael designed his a a certain angle so it was playable. This one is WAY to flat.

Yes, it's a prop. Unfortunately, I could not copyright or patent the design of the Double-Guitar. I looked into it a while ago. The reason is that my 1st Double-Guitar was made through a company and not just by me alone. They had a claim to it as well and that's where the initial copyright confusion starts. I didn't know the intellectual property laws at the time which is why Steve Vai, several movies, video games and commercials now are able to use my invention. The best thing is that I have been notified by a lot of people via e mail and now the forum saying they saw an MAB style Double-Guitar. It all helps! :-)

I'm sure alot have people have googled "double guitar" since the advert aired and if they didnt know before they will find out now that it was you that invented it.
