Hqve any of you ever played a Fender Mustang? It's got a 22.5 inch neck which is a full three inches shorter than a regular Strat neck and two and a quarter inches shorter than a Gibson neck. I've never played one of these guitars or even heard one but do you suppose that if you got one and took out the single coil pickups it comes with and replace them with a high output humbucker designed for playing heavy metal, would the Fender Mustang give a good metal sound? With a fretboard that short it would allow for some really wide stretches which would be fun!

Putting a high output humbucker in a guitar with only 22.5 inch scale length and using that to play high gain heavy metal is probably not going to sound good. It will probably sound very muddy. Keep the singlecoil and play it clean, yes clean sounds can be used in metal songs also
