Dear Michael I was very inspired by your video Speed Kills. The main part that caught my attention was Speed Kills revisted when you performed the master peice Prog Revisited.I was wondering how you got this tone on your guitar because a similar tone came in the movie Jam With Angelo. And I thought ok I'll buy a Randall but then I saw your AMP's were not on in Jam With Angelo and in Speed Kills Revisited it sounded like a Mesa Dual Rectifier. So my closest guess is Seymour Duncans <Could you verifiy the specific pickup used in your old Tradition Signature Model Mesa< What type or what AMP? And could you list what else you used if anything.THANKS EVEN IF YOU DON'T RE I WOULDN'T HOLD YA FOR IT LOL.

This is going to be hard to believe but the Tradition Guitar (Michael Angelo Batio signature model prototype) had stock Tradition pick up's in it and I used Doug Marks POD pre amp and ran it directly into the console. I know this is a cliché but a lot of my tone is in my head and my hands. I seem to be able to get "my sound" with most good equipment. I will say this- I use almost the exact opposite tone settings as (The late, great incomparable) Dimebag or most "heavy" rhythm guitarists. They like to "scoop" the Mid range frequencies. Conversely, I like to add Mid's. As much as I possibly can. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I will try something like that! *Runs out to get a POD*Because I figured out your Planet Gemini and first CD sound, except couldn't quite get Prog Revisited. It's funny I replaced my PRS pickups and I can't remember their sound but I recall them as sounding 100 percent like you in Speed Kills. So now I must beat myself silly everyday for throwing them away. But I do not belive in tone in the fingers because I have gotten every single guitar tone that has been deemed impossible. Some people go crazy saying Hendrix could only get his tone from his fingers but yet I know how to get everytone he had.Same with Malmsteens which has been unfortuntily ripped off alot lol and Satch's and Vai's and Beck's. I think it's more the fact in my opion all guitars are the same unless your being very cheap than they're are small differences.THANKS!

I was wondering when you played that song how you made that sound or just what you did when you played power chords ascending up the neck and you sort of banged your right hand on the neck of the guitar or something to play the notes insted of strumming the strings... what was is that you did?

You "just" hammer on top of the fretwire fx. 12 frets from your fretting hand

My guess is Doug Marks JCM 800 modded by Lee Jackson, medium gain, loads of mid, TS9 with gain and vol maxed and tone up 1/3, add a 300-320 ms delay with one or two repeats mxied about 33% wet.

If you are referring to the song "Prog" on the "Speed Kills" DVD, I used the exact same equipment that I listed above. As Blondie stated, I tapped the chords creating harmonic's. It is a simple concept. Guitar strings have harmonic, octave overtones every 12 frets. If I press down on the 1st string, 3rd fret, I can tap the 15th fret (12 frets higher) and create a harmonic. With an overdriven sound one can tap and create entire chords. The secret to creating the sound is tapping right over the fretwire and making sure you are tapping exactly 12 frets higher than your fretted note.

So you don't tap the strings 12 frets higher just the fretwire? You tap the fretwire 12 frets up from the fretted note.
