Hi Mike, after reading your comments about Tremonti's playing, and seeing a live video of you and him live, I've been curious about one thing; his technique. I don't doubt he's a very chopsy player, but I have yet to hear him play anything that has really impressed me.
Would you have any musical recommendations, or any links of him playing something very technically demanding? I know this sounds a bit silly, and I guess it isn't your average MAB question, but I was thinking you would be the one who'd know the most about this.

Tremonti takes lessons with Troy Stetnia and knows his stuff. Here are some videos on a couple of different sights: One this one, download the Creed shred soundcheck. www.bill-peck.com/video.htmwww.mark-tremonti.com/One this one go to media, then audio, then download the Mark Tremonti behind the scences shred. Aside from these, check out Alter Bridge's album. Mark wrote all the songs along with all the ones in Creed. He is an amazing song writer. Adam

Its a shame players like Tremonti don't get the real respect and acknowledgement they deserve as musicians, simply because their groups' style of music severely limits their talents (in my opinion anyways). Its true I like Creed just as much as the next person...(which basically means I like them in no way shape or form ) but Tremonti truely is a great player.

I didn't even know Mark could shred till I saw that video on BillPeck.com.....or he did mention it in an article too, but anyway its weird how you hear these top 40 radio then all of a sudden see him shredding. You know?

I read an interview once given by Joe Satriani and he said "I feel that credit of "guitar hero" should be given not only to just virtuoso's as there are many guitar players out there in bands that dont show their true skill. What they play in their band is different to what their skill level is actually at".

Thanks for the links, BossMorley, but I'm afraid none of it impressed me one bit. No offense, I'm sure he's a good player, but I didn't hear anything above average in those clips.
Maybe there's more interesting stuff in the Alter Bridge songs?

Mark Tremonti has a gift that IMO goes far beyond just being a good technical player. He is a songwriter of the highest caliber. He wrote the music and most of the lyrics to the biggest selling band of the last 5 years-Creed. Creed sold 30,000,000 CDs sold in the USA alone! I know Mark very well and have jammed with him numerous times within the last 6 to 7 months. He can play SRV and Steve Vai note for note, has a devastating picking hand for Death Metal rhythms and his timing is impeccable. Yngtchie, I think you are looking for an incredible example of technical guitar but that is not how Mark plays. His greatness is his ability to constantly learn new things and apply them to his music. When we were jamming backstage at House of Blues in Chicago late last year (warming up before the concert) , he started playing the clean guitar parts to some of the Creed hits. It gave me the chills. There in front of me was the man who made that music so famous on CD. It was incredibly beautiful to listen too, perfectly played. That is the greatness of MT. Having said all of this, Mark's solo on my new CD is fantastic. He likes to "tear it up" and does so on my new CD.

I am so excited for that cd. I liked Mark before Michael but if it wasn't for Mark I would not have found out about Michael. That is a great explanation of Mark Michael........and for the record I was at that show. lol I got to go back in that room you guys were shredding in and get my guitar signed. That was awesome but I didn't get it signed by Michael . I wish I would have but, I didn't really know who he was, but after that show I got home and ordered No Boundries and have been a fan ever since. ;D Adam

Thanks for the reply, and I see what you mean about him being a musical player, rather than focusing mainly on the technical aspect of guitar playing. It's just that I have heard a lot of talk about his great technique, and no recordings showing anything out of the ordinary. But I'll take your word for it, and I'm waiting patiently for your new album. Hopefully it'll be available in Norway.
