Does anybody know what Michael uses to silence the strings he is not playing besides his dampener? If you watch him play, you will notice he is not resting his picking hand on the strings when he plays fast. He also is not using a dampener when playing one guitar. I have been wanting to know this for a very long time. I have seen other guitarists play this way also.
thanks

I have no idea, maybe they use noise gates to stop the unwanted sound and they have managed to play without hitting the strings they are not using.

whenever im doing two handed tapping i insert a bit of newspaper under the first fret, that usually stops most feedback and open string noise

Yeah, on the "Speed Kills Revisited" section of the "Speed Kills" DVD he explains his own way of muting rather than you usual right hand muting. Also, welcome to the forum

I asked the same question some time ago in this forum: www.metalmethod.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000182.htmlHowever, although I try to damp the strings using fretting hand fingers for the treble strings and my right palm for bass strings, when I switch into hyper speed picking I tend to put my right palm far off the strings (in fact my picking technique is very similar to Mike's). And when you got the gain all the way up this traduces into noises causes by the bass strings vibrations, I can't understand how Mike can pick so clean seeing when he switch his technique in this manner too.
