hey michael. first and foremost, the forum is great. i have read alot of great stuff from a bunch of really cool people. you obviously have a terrific fan base. ok, to the point. i attended a show about 3 months ago here in oklahoma city. it was a rock show at the diamond ballroom (a local spot for some good rock shows). they had a guy who had been given the title as fastest guitarists in okc (won the title through a radio station contest). amazingly, this guy did not use a pick. now, i know a thing or two about not using a pick. I myself, although i have only been playing for a little over a year now, do not usually use a pick. for some strange reason, it never really felt comfortable, it always seemed to slip in my hands or i would grab it to tight and make the song sound aweful. however, i do not play the solo's or to the speed that you do. (my boss is a shredder - pretty good too). sorry, i am dragging this out!!! this guy (who's name i cannot remember) came up on stage with a dimebag dean and started tearing it up!!! i have never seen (anyone) play like this guy did without using a pick. he was sweeping (like i have seen you do in the speed lives video) up and down the strings using 4 fingers!!! i had never seen anythingl like it. obviously, you are an important influence in his playing, because right then and there, in the middle of his show, he busts out about 1 minute of your speed lives video. (to which he gave you credit). i have tried to find this guy, and no one seems to know where he is at. he just went around and played a couple of shows after he won the contest and dropped outta sight. it is a shame, he was truely amazing to watch. my question for you is if you have ever seen or know any amazing finger pickers (by amazing i mean can maybe try to keep up with you!!!). and secondly, if you ever had plans to go to oklahoma city and play or give a clinic, maybe up at the guitar center here or some other music shop. if you have played here before, i never got word of it, cause i would have definately called in sick to work to watch you play. i apologize for this being so long, but i hope to see you play someday, thanks for reading this!!!!

Hey Adam welcome to the forum, feel free to sign up! I've only ever seen one guy finger pick he played in this local band but he really wasn't very good at all he used to randomly pick notes in the solos and it sounded bad But i've never seen anyone to the skill level that you've mentioned, sounds pretty cool

Luke has just over 100 posts more than you blondie, so you spend too much time here also. Do you mean fingerpicks like the karate kid pretends to do in crossroads?

hey guys, it adam. i am the one who posted the that long long, overdrawn email about the fast finger picker in okc. i signed up and got my password, so hey, glad to be a part of the group. in response, he is definately the fastest finger picker i ever saw, although i usually don't use a pick either, i do not try to play riffs like that guy or riffs like michael plays. kinda cool though to know that it is possible, if you really wanted to be able to do it!!! i play rythem in a band i have with some friends of mine. although i don't use a pick when we play, it sounds great (i think!!), i have got pretty good at it!! but thanks for the replies, i will be posting more, it is good to see this forum gets a lot of action!

Adam, welcome to the forum. I am not familiar with the guitarist you mentioned. Blondie named all of the electric guitarists I know of that do not use a pick except for Seymour Duncan (the pick up designer). I know him well and he does not use a pick either.

thanks to everyone who has posted in here. I appreciate all of your feedback. I am thrilled to be a part of this forum.
Blondie, i am going to do some research on those players you mentioned. See what i can learn about their technique. I figure it cant hurt, seeing that the more and more i continue to play, the more and more i feel more comfortable not using a pick.
and of course, Thanks for reading my message michael. truely an honor to speak to you (somewhat!!!)
just on a side note, have you any plans for a future clinic or performance in oklahoma city, or anywhere else in the state of oklahoma. I see that you travel the world pretty extensively, and that coming down to my neck of the woods may not be the most extravigant place you have ever been, (lol), but we would love to see you come down here some day!!!
thanks,
adam

I believe Marcus Buchingham (Fleetwood Mac) also does not use a pick.

I remember the firts time Mike responded to a post of mine (on the MM board), I was like WOW man, he actually replies himself Later I got to shake his hand in Copenhagen and he seemed really nice and Cool, then I became Mod here and a little over a month ago I got to spend two days with him at the Frankfurt Music Messe and I tell You he's one of the nicests and cool dudes I've ever met. If You ever get a chance to see him, go to him and say "Hi Mike, I'm Adam FirstYearPlaying from the forum" Good Luck on Your non-picking

To be honest, I've never ever fingerpicked and I've missed a lot thanks to that.
