Hi. I'm new here, so don't start flaming me You said in your vid that you shouldn't do the "banana" thing, but you seem to do that when you sweep Am arpeggio on 5. string 12. position and your right hand's thumb seems to do that too, am I blind or is this true?

I think it's because when you play this: ---------------------------- ------------------------14---- --------------------14-------- ----------------15------------ ---12-13-15----------------------- ---------------------------- for exemple (I don't know what it sounds like ! LoL), you have to do the "banana" to catch the 14th fret on the b string..... I think this is why... I think he talks about the banana when you are playing alternate picking... like this: ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- and so on... -----------------------------------7-9-10--- -------------------------7-9-10------------- ---------------7-9-10----------------------- -----7-9-10--------------------------------- I guess this is why... Let's see his answer.

I just ordered speed lives and speed kills so now I'll finally find out what the bloody hell this banana thumb you all keep going on about is... ;D *coughs* Yeah, so I was so excited at that thought I forgot to put the actual reason I was posting in the first place... Hi Clameo There's no flamers here, don't worry. It's very friendly!

Clameo, welcome to the forum. That term is only applicable to single notes. I am not referring to bar chords or arpeggio's where you have to "roll" your fingers or place them flat on the guitar neck. Hope this clears things up.

It's this A minor arpeggio where you have to "roll" your ring finger on the D and G strings:
|----------------12-17-12----------------| |-------------13----------13-------------| |----------14----------------14----------| |-------14----------------------14-------| |-12-15----------------------------15----| |----------------------------------------|

Fabien, you are correct. When I referred to "the banana", it originally was a way to tell young guitar students to keep their fingers curved when fretting the guitar. The exceptions to this are certain bar chords, arpeggios, etc... I have always liked to use memorable phrases to get across ideas. This was just a way to explain an important finger position in simple, easy to understand terms. Hope this helps.
