Michael,
I have always wondered where you you come up with the song titles that go on your instrumental songs.
For songs with without lyrics, it must be a little harder. You seem to come up with titles that are easy to relate to the piece.
Does the song come first, or do you have an idea or emotion that the title is part of and then compose the music?

when you listen to pieces like peace or science fiction you get certain moods that come with the music or the scale that he's in at the time when you add it all together you get an emotion. like in the song peace it starts of slow and melodic and then gradually gets harder and faster, now if you stop and actualy listen to the mood it sounds like the calm before the war, the war, and then peace. then in other songs like i do for you it sound like hes making his guitars talk to each other, arguing with each other, screaming, etc so i think that its pure emotion and what the guitar sounds like its saying. keep rocking

Sixstringsweep, you really understand the meaning of the song "Peace". I imagined a town or a city, a place where people lived peacefully, a long time ago, then a war on their land, they defeated the enemy, then "Peace" again. There was a style of music in the 19th century called "tone poems", where the composer tried to depict exact feelings and/or events through music. This is how I come up with titles to my songs. I ask myself "what does this music mean to me, why am I writing it this way"?

that rocks ! That's why when you are listening some romantics composers like wagner, chopin, or..... brahms (I guess you all have reallized that I love that period, and that brahms is my favourite composer ;D ), you can "see/feel" the Love (actually, brahms was always in love... and many other romantic composer were like him... => I won't compare Wagner with him (I've read that Wagner hated when people comparate him to Brahms... well I'm not going to go in the details ;D))), and "peace" actually... but then when you play it on the piano, its like you know some blizzard, and you can hear the horses coming, and then the canons, and you can feel totally in the napoleonic war ! It's really amazing... and it's a pleasure to play some music like that. Right ? That's why your titles are really corresponding with the music that you play . I'll try to find the corresponding word in french for "tones poems"... I guess it's Poésie Lyriques.

Tone poems are wonderful, we studied them at A-level music... well we did program music in general. I love music that tells a story Smetna's Ma Vlast, Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique, Mendelsohn's Hebrides, Saint Saen's Danse Macabre and Carnival of the Animals, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.... Aaah you've got me thinking now, I feel all inspired ;D *runs to grab guitar*

I'm really happy someone made a thread on this, I was asking myself the exact same thing. I think it's really great that you can put such emotion and feeling into a song without having lyrics. 2x Again for an example, I made my friend listen to it and she asked "Does he write his own lyrics" I answered her no, she listened to the song and was amazed. Her first reaction was "omg you can feel all the emotion in the guitar...there's no need for lyrics!"...I agreed with her 100%. Now I'm gonna shut up and stop babbling 'cause I could write for hours!

I've always thought the song "no boundaries" as a demonstration of your musical ability. that tere is a feeling of no boundaries to your songwriting. and that is very exiting!
