active pickups are battery powered, but have alot higher output that passive ones. active pickups need to be charged (at least the ones ive seen) so thats minus 1 for active. alot of distortion makes your chops seem alof beefier and better, but can get alittle to muddy for rythem and stuff. i prefer passive; less hastle, less money. besides, if you need an extra push, you can always use another distortion circut.

the jem is probably the best guitar ive ever played, tied with the zakk wylde les paul and the yngwie strat. definatley worth the money, and people will bow down to you in respect if they see you playin one of these beautes.

"and people will bow down to you in respect" Don't go and buy a guitar cause this statement, simple buy a guitar you like how it sounds, you wil gain respect for what you play and for who you are no for the guitar is hanging on your neck, and advice on guitars, if you go to a music store and you play a guitar that acousticly sound very good then that is a guitar to have in consideration, now i prefer passive pickups cause the sound you hget out of the guitar is from the wood than from the pickups but that is up to the person, just my two cents good luck man

Hey Ernesto! I completely agree with you! Everybody should buy a guitar because he likes it's sound - it doesn't matter if it is a Malmsteen or Darell's signature models. But i am talking about Ibanez because it is the only guitar i like - it sits great in my hands. I tried Jackson, Yamaha, Fender Mexican Strat and an Ibanez and i just realized that's the guitar i should play on - Ibanez! Respect to all other guitars!

I have a KV3, looks cool, plays ok but I'm glad I bought it while the $ was cheap. Made the price ok, but I saw it go up afterwards and got quite expensive, to expensive i think. Like both my Jem and my $239 kramer striker better

Discussing gear... what is a good guitar to get as a beginner.. that will last long and not limit the playing too much?

The music teacher at my school has a Paul with a passive pickup and an active pick up, I've never seen it, but he was telling me about it when he first got it.
