What was the first guitar you ever owned? Mine was the notorious Kay guitar. Haha. I didn't have to play it for long before getting something better.

A purple Squier Strat. I'd like to think that it's some rare and valuable guitar as I've never seen another one in purple before.

Ibanez RG370DX! I love that guitar! It just sits perfectly in my hands although it is rather cheap - $320!

An acoustic. Any starter should begin with an acoustic the neck is bigger and strings are heavier. Plus you dont have to worry about effects and volumes yet. Then when you move to electric, you have twice as much skill under your belt.

..like michael says.."take the bull by it's horns" ...starting with an electric could have it's advantages..some people start w/ acoustics and then later claim they only wanna be "rythem guitarist"..only b/c all they learn to play is chords..soloing is pretty hard on an acoustic (but i do agree with you on the strings being thinker that is better for breaking in your finger tips)

My very first guitar was an acoustic, but as I was young and my hands were small when I started, I was unable to play any bar chords at all until I got my first electric, a Washburn Lyon strat copy. Because it was so much easier for me to play an electric, my playing suddenly improved by leaps and bounds. So for those of you beginners lacking hand strength, an electric may be the way to go.

My first guitar was a Gremlin classical guitar, with steel strings on it. It was interesting to play for the first few years, but I started to wonder why I had such terrible hard skin on my fingers in 2nd grade
