I've looked through the forum, but I couldn't find any info about pickups.....well, I'm gonna soon put a humbucker in my Strat, and i want a nice hot one for a good metal sound. Any suggestions guys? I was thinking of the Fender American stacked humbucker, but I also have heard good things about Furies and DeMarzios. Any and all input is welcomed. Anyone know what type of pickup Michael's guitar in the "speed kills" demo vid has? Just curious. P.S. Some people say, "just get anything...they'll all do the same thing." I'm not too sure about that...

I am running custom Dimarzio's on my 7 string. I have the air norton at the neck and the tone zone at the bridge. Check out the sound samples on Dimarzio's website. www.dimarzio.com/flash.htm

For passive pickups, try using a DiMarzio Evolution (bridge). Vai uses them, and they sound great. If you need more output to send your amp into overdrive, try out the X2N. It's a beastly pickup...
For active pickups (ones w/ batteries), EMG 81s are the best there are.

I also got another Strat with a Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck and a JB in the bridge, not really what I was looking for but I also havent played it that much.
I stand by the hot rails man, everyone who plays it say its the best fender they ever played and its super slick and the notes just ring out.

I decided to go with the Fender noiseless pickups for my Strat, to keep the single-coil sound. I got a Gibson SG Standard on the way for that real fat roar I was after. Now I'll have the best of both worlds....er....tones!

I think DiMarzio PAF pro's have the best all-round sound.

I've just ordered three new pups for my ibanez/ fender: JB for the ibanez bridge Alnico Pro 2 for the neck Breed for the Fender bridge (or possibly swap the alnico pro 2 out of the ibanez neck for the breed, which may actually be a better plan coming to think of it) and i've also got a hot rails in the strats neck. If you want good pickup info, im over on the seymour duncan forums where we discuss pups all day long lol Im also trying to get hold of some emg single coils, as they have great ultra clean sounds... but they're not the sort of pickup you'd be using if you wanted the breakup like hendrix tone- they're either on or off if you get me ;D Cheers!

I'm not too sure about that... Michael had duncans on speed lives, JB in the bridge & Pearly gates in the neck (to my knowledge). But now he is a dimarzio man. [glow=gree,2,300]I had a great conversation with Blondie before this forum existed :[/glow] www.metalmethod.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/000193.htmlThis was before he became the expert he is now ;D as for "Some people say, "just get anything...they'll all do the same thing." I'm not too sure about that... " whoever said that needs a kicking ;D ask them to get a killer heavy metal tone out of their guitar with a seymour duncan king of twang in their bridge. If you don't want to sever your strat/ by a new scratchplate (which are pretty bloody pricey!) to put a humbucker in, its definitly worth buying a hot rails. Im currently running one in my neck and its a really smooth tone, maybe too much power for my liking as i prefer buttery smooth) Also, im only using 250k pots on the strat (to my knowledge), and i legend has it if your pots are upgraded to 500k you will get an even hooter response. (i think most metal guitars already have 500k) Kev
