It's kind of a funny story how i found out about shred and neo-classical guitar. when i was 17 i was tired of the same old metal bands such as metallica, ozzy and megadeth (still love the bands nowadays too) I had learned all the riffs and solos that i wanted. it was too easy for me. And none of the bands comign out were of ny interest too me ( i was completely oblivious to european melodic metal at the time). So i stopped playing guitar for a while and got into piano. during my short time of playing piano i fell in love with classical music. Bach, mozart, lizst, chopin and rachmaninoff were my new musical heroes. Their ability to compose was far to superior to anybody else i had heard of. Then i thought " there should be heavy metal with classical in it!" of course i was still oblivous to shred and neo-classical. so i tried learning a few classical pieces on guitar with heavy distortion. and i thought it sounded so awesome. I immidietely went to kazaa and tried to find music like this and i stumbled apon malmsteen. I really liked his style and playing ability. and the rest is history. I now love a number of shred quitarists including MAB, Yngwie and Ozielzinho. And now i like all kinds of melodic metal. and i can tell you, this is a whole new meaning of music for me! i love it!

I went to a music store looking to buy some thing, anything really just something that looked cool. I was board with the same old music. And I wanted the cover to have something interesting to draw so I could hang it on my wall. Then my eyes got something. Something that looked a bit midevil. With an interesting twist. A Man with a guitar shooting at a dragon. I thought that at the very least it would be interesting and the guitar player should be good or at least deicent. Little did I know how much this cassette tape would effect me. Have you guest it, yet? That's right Yngwie Malmsteens Trilogy!

When I started getting a bit into guitar. a friend of mine showed me the section for Michael in the dean site. I thought the solo was mind blowing and I kept on refreshing the page just so I could hear it. One day I listened to it again and saw the Speed Lives video and then the rest is history!

I found out about Shred by watching the Speed Lives dvd actually... So therefor, I have Michael to thank for opening up a whole new world of guitar to me.
