Well actually, I am self-trained in the art of Boxing and Krav Maga. Also, I dabble in Dim Mak, but I got no sparring partner with me on that as of yet Yeah...I'm kind of a fight-science geek.

I've done Brazilian Jiu Jitsu off and on for about 5 years and I used to do Kickboxing and Combat Hapkido.

Just out of curiosity, what equipment do you use to train boxing and krav maga?,heavy bags? what? And I'm assuming that you train mostly strikes. I'm considering training on my own so I might need some advice on that.

masterdav, i use heavy bags, speed bags, medicine ball and a jump rope. But if you cant get your hands on that, dont worry...just make a basic heavy-bag and punch the hell out of it. Thats what Marciano did. Always use training gloves or you just might damage your hand. No guitar or boxing then Better still, join a gym. A trainer is really helpful. Oh! also...if you really want to be a good fighter, do shadowboxing. Works in Krav Maga too.

doesn't sound like krav maga to me... i've been to israel and there is no bags, one of the big things in krav maga is bags dont hit back....
krav maga has become the cool thing since fight quest, and not a lot of places actually practice it, its a survival art, a deadly survival art, you need to learn small limb dislocations/breaks, knife and gun defence, multiple attackers and shark tanking.... it was an art to defend against assassins and terrorists in israel... if you want to learn it, israel is the place to go
as for myself i hold a black belt in kyokushin karate and a purple belt in BJJ under roger gracie

Hey guys, there is not a big difference between say Aikido, Hapkido, Krav Maga, etc. a finger lock is a finger lock and there are many different ways to do one. The Japs are the ones that made it proficient. What you guys are impressed with is the Israel style, because of the way they practice it. Every one has watched fight quest, and was blown away with Krav Maga simply by the way they practice over there. You have to become proficient at a martial art if you have 10 guys beating the hell out of you every day. we simply don't do that here because of mainly , liability. I search you tube weekly trying to find new technique to introduce to my class and I just don't see anythig different with Krav Maga. It's like playing the guitar, anyone could play the guitar like Michael Angelo Batio if they wanted to start practicing at puberty and practiced every day for 5 hours a day for 20 years! I can say this you cannot become proficient at martial arts practicing by yourself, it's not the same as playing the guitar! If you want to become deadly in your art form, dont worry about the style just find a place where they like to walk out with blood all over your face. by the way my instructor in Aikido was a student under Hickson gracie

I mainly focused my last post on boxing. You cant train Krav Maga without a partner. Its mainly about counter-attack. But, striking power is extremely essential in Krav Maga. That is why the army trains boxing as well as Krav Maga. You wont go anywhere without proper striking techniques. No amount of counter-attacks will help if u dont know how to hit your opponent properly.

Very well said. Every fight style is equally proficient. And that is why, I am hugely interested in Dim Mak. It is the style in which people are taught to kill in the quickest possible way. That is practical. Everything else you see are toned-down versions of their original roots. Krav Maga can kill just as easily, its just that it is not showcased in mainstream media. Dim Mak is however without any pretence.

A finger lock is not a finger lock in every art, and its complete ignorance to say so, the leverage system of BJJ turned the strength based submission applications of martial arts on it's head... Krav Maga as i stated previous, is not taught with conviction outside of israel, if you were a black belt in krav maga and went there, i guarantee their purple belts would man handle you, just like going to brazil with a black belt in BJJ... Oh an it's rickson gracie...

that was not his point. All he wanted to say was every fight style is equally proficient.
And by the way, how can you say the finger lock isnt the same everywhere. The basic principles are same, its just the style of execution that differs.

I do not want to ruffle anybodys feathers. The Brazilians are another country that can be compared to Israel. The way they practice is serious nature. Not too many cut the mustard down there but the ones that do turn out world class dont they? I cant believe Royce gracie tried to come back. I bet they talked him into that one. You dont lay off from something like UFC and then just step back in! lose a fight in that family and you are outcast! Yes boxing is probably your best martial art, my favorite, It is very difficut to initiate an arm bar or small joint technique against a large opponent unless you connect with a strike first, standing or on the ground, unless they open them selves up trying to grab etc. (DUMB) And if you will notice, watching street fights ..youtube etc they all come in swinging to the face, that is why we work low kicks to the knees on the heavy bags weekly.
