Hey there everyone, I've been working on a new song for about a week now. I'm finished with it for now and I would like to hear everyone's opinions on the playig, riffs, composition or anything. Some of it is quite sloppy and there are a couple of points when the guitar tone changes rather hilariously as I forgot what settings I had. media.putfile.com/Thaddeus-Thistlerows-Fantastic-SlideshowAll feedback appreciated, Thanks. Forgot to mention, it's progressive metal, loads of odd time signatures.

hey, thanks for the reply, i'm glad you liked it. It took several takes to get some of the riffs down, but each track was recorded straight through, two rythm tracks and a bass track with the solos and sweeps overdubbed after one or two takes. The drums were just the standard rock kit from acoustica beatcraft, i only have a laptop and a digitech pedal so even if i could play the drums i couldnt record them.

First i have to say im not a fna of this type of music at all, but i love listening to the forum members stuff so i thought id check it out. I managed to listen all the way though but i become very annoyed with the constant changing in progressive music, i dont know what it is i jsut dont like the constant time sig changes and wierd accents and stuff. However, you obviously know what your doing and music like this is pretty complex to write and play so thumbs up for that. i didnt like the sudden change to the clean backing chords but thatsd prog for ya lol.
Im probably not the best to comment on this but im guessing fans of the genre would enjoy it a lot more than i did.

i think theres some cool ideas and riffs goin on, but 2 me it sounds like your purposely trying to be technical, it sounds kinda forced, but like u said some of it is quite sloppy and everything and u may be still be working out the kinks, do u like death, dream theater and spastik ink at all? , just curious.

Thanks for the input guys. I find it quite interesting what draws people to certain types of music, or puts them off, i find the constant changes in time signatures and complexity in composition one of my favourite parts about this sort of music, i can also see though why it would put alot of people off. You're right Kamizi, the whole point of this song for me was to see how technical a song i could write. It was basically an excercise in odd time signatures and as little structure/repetition as possible, while still being a song i liked personally and could listen to on its own.
Dream Theater are my favourite band after Symphony X and i like a fair bit of Death's stuff too, i havent heard any Spastic Ink but people have told me good things about them so i may check them out in the near future.
Thanks again for the responses so far.
