This is an original that I wrote a while ago called "In The End". It was recorded live. We mic'ed the drums and amps with Sure 57's into a 12 channel mixer, and from there straight into a cheap tascam 4 track recorder. Therefore, you may need to adjust your EQ a bit, unfortunately, as there are hardly any mids. Head Rush is Chris Lorette on drums, Dreger on bass and John Nuttall (Thats me) on guitar. Just click on the file, and it will play in your browser if you have the quick-time plugin, If not just right click and "save target" as mp3 file. Let me know what you guys think, (particularly the solo). If you like it, I will post more... Hope you enjoy. www.speedyshare.com/938354470.html

Ahh, here we go
The GOOD: -Your band sounds very in sync with each other and well rehearsed. -I like this style of music, mostly because it gets people moving live, and I think that is just great, -some good riffs, I was listening carefully, and though it's simple I appreciate that sort of thing def liked that chug vibe during the chorus, and what it led to, the fast beat, good balanced metal song structure
The bad: -Well, you mentioned it, but the tone had no mids, and at the same time, the distortion was breaking it up so much that it sounded just so crunchy, I can barely make out what you're doin' so that was rough, what are the setting on your amp and what amp are you playing through? -the mix was a little strange, I could hear how low the bass was when he was alone
The solo: I totally understand the fast sort of thrashy solo type of deal, and know it's nearly impossible to be most people's idea of "tasteful" during a section where the song is very fast, there's not very much going on harmonically, and you gotta keep up with your leads in that, I think your solo was appropriate, full tilt so I guess compositionally (what little composition there was lol) it was very appropriate. The playing wasn't my bag really, A LOT of trill picking the speed is hear, but not the accuracy, ala Kerry King, but if you were going for that I guess that's fine, live it would def please most crowds if the audience was with you through the song. again, tone issues prevent me from being more detailed, but I can hear what you're going for.
I really dig that crunchy, thrashy in your face style of metal, some of your riffs remind me of old thrash, while another part of you reminds me of newer bands like bury your dead.
Good luck, if you're looking for accuracy in your picking, and tighter timekeeping, you're probably gonna wanna tighten up your quality time with the metronome and jam more often, but if you're looking to serve up some aggressive, brutal music with harsh, rotten thrashy leads in the style of slayer, all you need to do is get better with the recording, maybe switch to modelers or something.
Best wishes!

For your style of music, I really hate to again be the poster boy for this (I am everywhere) but I gotta say, amp modeling like pods are so great I think, specially if you want to plug into a PA... good way to instantly get useable sound... definite flaws for sure, but nothing a whole lot of metal heads of the thrash metal calibur will care too much about... and with some tweaking during mixing, you can work out some of the fizz pretty well, so, yeah! get what you think is best though...

I need something that can play small venues as well, was lookin at a cheap valvestate 8100 head and 4x12 cab. PS I hate that no mids, dimebag tone I have on that demo of ours. I got into a big augment about it with our bass player. He thinks it sounds good lol. And I just hate it so much, I cant see a band breaking up over someones tone can u? And no, lol there was no composition, I play all my solos different every time, I just improvise.
PS I heard u play on your post about the new "Eruption" Man that was great! I wish I could pick that quickly!! There was one lick you did that was so good, a slower one too btw. Cool sig, U just make it?

Cool sig, U just make it? haha yup I made that sig, photshop is a little fun, I personally think mids are a totally subjective thing, I've heard great tones from both high and low, in metal it's what you're doing with it at any given time... Lamb of god and Children of bodom use mids pretty well, metallica doesn't use mids but still has a pretty great, classic tone I think, it varies depending on your tastes... you need a different amp too, that one cannot handle such high gain... something with a cabinet... more often than not I CRANK the mids up high, I think it sounds great, cuts the mix and puts your balls out there, kinda forces you to play better, too.
