Well, I think it's time for me to upgrade my effects processor, but I don't know which ones would be good for playing live and practicing. Anyone have any suggestions?

Well i use a Boss ME-70 and it's incredible. It is a very versatile unit and great tone even through a PA system.

I checked out what you suggested, I thought it sounded pretty good! But I think I'm gonna go with a Line 6 Pod X3 Live. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

If you're only looking for effects I can recommend TC Electronics, G-Major, G-Force and Nova System works great for live use.
If you're looking for modelling I can definitely recommend Digidesign Eleven Rack, it blows everything Line 6 has ever done away!

+1 on the eleven rack! It sounds more "analoge" compared to the pod x3!

I checked the price for the Eleven Rack, that will burn a hole in my wallet! If I ever get the extra cash I'll check it out, but right now my best option is either Line 6 gear, Boss, or Digitech.

Yeah you can't go wrong with the Line 6 POD X3 Live, Boss or digitech pedals. If you are going to be using patches i would say us the POD + it looks awesome and has great tone to it. Down the track you could save up for the Eleven Rack or even the Boss GT-Pro rack. Anyway in the end if you get any you would still get awesome amp modeling!

What type of music do you play? Check out Vox ToneLab, I think it's better than any POD stuff I've tried actually. But if you're playing metal POD and BOSS might be better, if you're into more clean playing, rock and fusion and such I think you should try a Vox ToneLab.

I like playing shred/metal stuff such as MAB of course and John Petrucci. I also love EVH and Ozzy Osbourne. I want to get something that's affordable and versatile.

Im rocking an axe fx II atm. It doesnt get any better than this at the moment, and even the amp models feel very similar to how a tube amp responds.

The axe fx 2 sounds great, but still... 2grand??? for that kind of money u can get a decent tube preamp like a triaxis.

I think the POD HD offers great value for it's price range. Most people don't need an Axe-Fx II, and could get by just fine with the POD. It's improved a lot, and with the latest firmware, it's pretty good. Also, it really depends how good you are at tweaking and how much time you spend as far as making a good custom patch. The defaults are crap, so don't judge the unit on those.

I'm a big fan of the Boss GT line. I'm using a GT8 live right now and it kills. They just came out with the GT100, which is even better of course. Runs about 500.
