I haven't done this in awhile, lol. But, what are some newish/new bands you all like? I don't care much for screaming... but, can take a little of it. The band doesn't need to be technical.. fun is more what I am looking for these days, lol. Like, I like Five Finger Death Punch. Starting to listen to a little of Slipknot, thou, just recently.. have only heard a few songs of theirs, lol. I prefer bands with no screaming, but, I guess you can't win them all, lol. I grow up in the 80's and 90's I am not sure music will hit that level again for a while.. even thou a slight comeback has been made... but, some of the new stuff seems fun. So looking forward to hearing more of what is out there these days and what you all like.

The best band I've started to listen to the past year is Textures, I've known about them for a very long time but never got any time to listen to them until recently. Not a new band though, they have been around for 10 years or so. They do have screaming vocals but also clean vocals, although ther vocalists is not their strongest part IMO, the music is amazing. Almost like Dream Theater for me in that sense, I'm not too fond of the vocals but I love the music as a whole anyway. I've been listening to a new metal band called Monuments lately, their new album "The Amanuensis", it's good. Yes a fair bit of screaming there also, but more darker type of growl/scream not high pitched annoying screaming that some do and they have plenty of clean vocals also. They are in the same type of genre as TesseracT, which if you can't stand screaming or gowling has a second album called "Altered State" which only has clean vocals, but very whimpy vocals IMO, would've been better to hire a female singer IMO. They have been around for a long time, on the internet mostly but didn't release their first studio album until 2011. Collibus is a band who released their debut album this year. Not much screaming in their vocals and the guitarist is really good, in the style of Jeff Loomis and Rusty Cooley. I've also listened to Scar Symmetry's latest album which they released in october, they've been around for around 10 years also so it's not a new band on the scene but I think this album is fairly different from their previous, so in a sense they are a little bit of a "new" band. It's melodic death metal so it has plenty or growl, screaming but also a lot of clean vocals. I didn't like the album that much as a whole but it does have some really amazing guitar playing and it's worth a listen only because of that. I really like Francesco Artusato's new album "Our Dying Sun", it's more progressive and interesting than I expected, not just mostly fast in your face shredding like his first album. None of these are "fun" in any way so you might not like them. Well, maybe Scar Symmetry's album can be labeled as "fun" to some degree because of the lyrics and the insane sound they got

There is also a 2003 EP by John Arch titled A Twist Of Fate. This stuff is good, melodic, progressive metal. Kind of like Dream Theater but more metal than Dream Theater.

Cool man... Yeah, I will check it out for sure! I tried to get into the Slipknot thing... but IDK ... I just can't... I mean it is alright to listen to... But, just not my personal guitar playing style. When I pick up the guitar I always go straight to playing Savatage, Yngwie, Slayer, Metallica, Ozzy, Megadeth, Dokken and Testament.. I can't seem to separate myself from those, lol! They are my warm up and tests to see if I am even gonna like a guitar or my sound, lol! Hoping I can find a new band or bands that make such an impact on me and my playing.

Cool band Blackjack Oh did you already hear Sympathetic Resonance by Arch/Matheos or A Twist Of Fate by John Arch? Let me know what you think. I especially like the Twist Of Fate EP. I noticed you said you like Savatage. They're one of my favorite bands! Do you prefer the early sound from Sirens up to Hall Of The Mountain King, or do you like the more progressive albums that came afterwards such as Gutter Ballet, Streets, and Edge Of Thorns? I like them all but the last three albums I named are my Savatage favorites. If you do like John Arch's voice then I highly recommend the first three albums from his original band Fates Warning. Night On Brocken, The Spectre Within, and Awaken The Guardian are all amazing, especially the last two. The Fates Warning albums after Awaken The Guardian have a different lead singer and they aren't nearly as heavy or as good.
