hi there, my problem is i only have 3 fingers on my left hand (im right handed), so do u think its ever possible for me to play any songs from MAB? my style of playing the guitar is generally different cuz i dont have my small finger anymore (*sob*). i can only play being seated, cuz first, my hands are not big and when i stand i cant keep my thumb behind the neck and then its already very difficult for me to do a simple powerchord. most guitar plays dont keep the thumb behind the neck when playing standing, but when i have my hand like this too ---- for example: home.earthlink.net/~ikhtiarahmed/hetfield.jpg ---- i just cant play. my pinky finger is missing the first joint and when it was made a stump in the hospital the doctor cut a nerve, so i dont have any feelings in the "new fingertip". any suggestions what i could do? or..is it even possible to play fast arpeggio runs etc. with only 3 useable finger? ive seen small e-guitars for kids maybe i sohuld buy one like this? sadly the ones ive seen were usually of not so good quality (maybe around 200$ only). hope anybody can give me some advices! bye

I'm no expert by any means, just my opinion... My niece was born with only 2 fingers and a thumb. She mastered the piano by extensive practice. When I hear her play I know that anything is possible. The idea of teaching yourself to play left handed is not far fetched. Michael is naturally left handed, yet taught himself to be ambidextrous. You may find that adjusting to left handed techniques is the best way to go if you want to play like Michael. There's a guitarist from my area who has no hand. He plays with a hook and he's amazing! If you want to be a guitarist, you'll make it happen with practice, practice, practice, no matter if you have 3 fingers or none. Please keep us updated on your progress!

i suggest to adjust as much as you can alot of guitar players don't use there little finger at all there is still alot of stuff you can play an if you train yourself well you can achive fast runs and arpeggios.

U can learn really cool stuff like trills and tremolo picking, just because u cant span a lot of frets doesnt mean ur hand cant move fast enough to do it, beethoven was deaf( i think it was him) yet he composed amazing pieces of music, the sky is no limit my friend, either is space, there is no boundaries (just thought i'd say it before someone else does)

Theres this guy in florida with some birth defects in his hands, and I think he has like 3 weird fingers on each hand, but he can shred like hell.

He carries a red velvet lined case of different types of hooks. He's got the pirate hook, He once told me it is just for fun.
He has a special hook designed to hold a guitar pick and one for general daily gripping needs. He also has one with a fork!

thanks for ur answers so far. i heard michael schenker also played some very fast licks without using his small finger?!. about playing left handed im not sure... i played guitar when i was about 7 , then stopped and started playing again 1 year ago. i still remembered all the stuff from when i was younger, so i think its very hard for me to switch to left hand suddenly. but...im confused now..maybe i should do it to have the advantage of having all fingers. anyway, what about the short scale guitar idea? now ive seen a fender (not squier ) mex stratocaster. maybe its worth buying it... and agian, thanks ^^

I'm suprised no-one has yet named Django Reinhardt (unless I'm not concentrating properly). He could only move two fingers on his fretting hand and was absolutely AMAZING at fast licks as Michael will tell you (he mentions him in the Star Licks video)
