For orchestral stuff you can't get much better for under $1K than Edirol HQ Orchestra. It's a VST instrument and works with Cubase SX and a few other programs. It's pricey but the quality is top notch www.edirol.com/products/info/hq_orchestral.html

I have a ton of VST's and they just are amazing how realistic they sound. They are far better than the high end sound fonts I also use.

Any midisequencer with a soundmodule or a sampler (both can be hardware or software) will do the trick. There loads of free legal VST plugs available... Try it my way, try it the Google way

My keyboard has hundreds of realistic ocrchestra sounds, just learn a few chords and put the synth strings on or something. Powertab also does the same.

Well one time I created an orchestral sound by recording midi on to digital and then plugging in all kinds of chorus and reverb and bouncing down an eight track recorder like 5 times or something stupid like that. It's prolly not the best way to go about things but the end product sounded GREAT!

Well, with age comes wisdom, supposedly. As for people thinking you're a nerd because of google stickers... people think that anyways, so you have nothing to lose. Luke I'm curious when's your b-day? I was born in '88 too and I sure hope you're older than me, cause I don't wanna be outshredded by a young'n .
