Hi My name is taylor I am 12 years old and am in six grade. I have been playing guitar for a year. LAst year you helped me out with my tremolo picking after the cinic in Waterford MI.(motor city guitar 11/23)
I have a talent show coming up for my school and was wondering if you had any ideas to help me win. I was going to play in this order 1-Spanish Fly 2-paganini 16th caprice 3 -prelude mortale 4-paganini 5th caprice (eugen's trick bag) 5- Flight of the bumblebee and end it off with 6- eruption
Does this sounds like a good plan, Do yuo have any suggestions.
When is your next clinic in michigan?

I know it's quite possible to be a virtuoso at 12, but as an agent, I'm skeptical on Taylors age. I'd have to go to that talent show and see for myself!
Michigan is a yearly tour stop. Michael will be back sooner than later. Be ready to play for him Taylor! ;D

anyone can learn a song, at any age (as long as your hands are big enough to fit around the neck)
what takes skill is actually writing albums worths of songs and make them sound good! eg. MAB, satch, vai

Flight of the bumblebee im not to keen on but the rest are a good choice, i would find something better than eruptio to, the amount of covers is unbeleivable, cover something better like a MAB song?

Flight of the bumblebee is cool. Versions to check: Kee Marcello (Europe) - Alternate Picking Manowar Bassplayer - Bass Jennifer Batten - 8finger tapping Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) - Flight of the wounded Bubmlebee - Alternate with dotted 8th note delay.

Yeah, playing Eugene's Trick Bag isn't that bad, it's getting it as clean as Steve did that's VERY difficult

I agree with everyone as far as playing with clarity and detail. That type of consistent playing is just as technically difficult as speed. Precision and clarity are always more important because speed is a natural by-product of those two ingredients. The more accurate and consistently you can play something clean slowly the faster you can speed it up, that is if you use the same technique slow as you do fast(Hmm sounds familiar. Maybe I heard it from a good player once or all good players I've ever talked to ) That brings me to another point. I believe every guitarist in this forum should take time out every day to learn about the classical guitar. I know I'll probably get a bunch of negative comments about this post but I don't care. Andres Segovia is the father of everything GUITAR. If it weren't for him we would all be playing in gypsy camps in Spain at wild parties with all of the flamenco greats. Segovia brought the instrument to a respectable level by turning it into its own little orchestra. I really think every guitarist in here should buy a cheap 20 dollar pawn shop classical guitar, a good classical guitar technique book(Such as Shearer method, pumping nylon), a good etude book(Sor, Carcassi, or whatever) and learn to play it. It will give you almost all the problem solving skills you need to become a great guitarist of any style.
