This is probably the best place to verify this...
There has been some thing on the Net for quite a while now about Allan Holdsworth in the song "Fred" played 30 notes per second. Is this correct?? Does this make him the fastest guitarist ever??
Also some says its 40 notes/sec! And in other places it says 29... and that Malmsteen is second with 28 notes/sec. It's quite ridiculous to read, but still is it true that Holdsworth played that fastest bit?

I can't remember exactly but I've seen that in many places where highest notes per second were argued over... Maybe, google-ing for "fastest notes per second guitar" or "allan holdsworth fred notes per second" may throw up what I've seen. And yes 40 *IS* ridiculous

www.rockmagic.net/forum/topicDisplay.php?topicID=492There is the link to the thread where they say some guy Allan Holdsworth has done the fastest guitar run... Wonder what Michael thinks of this... , certainly IMO Michael's the fastest though i don't play the guitar, my ears are quite good.

Knowing Holdsworth that was likely a legato run, I doubt he could touch Michael's alternate picking prowess.

I met Allan H. when I was recording the first "Nitro" CD. He was recording in the studio next to us. He mentioned to me that he started performing and releasing "albums" that dated back to the 1970's. He is a legato player with phrasing that at times sounds like a saxophone.

For the record, if anyone else in the forum wanted to play 40 notes a second set your metronome on 150 and play some 64th notes. If you succeed you might burn yourself to an early grave.

I'll never be able to play that fast, its crazy, Allan holdsworth aint the most exotic of names is it, we have yngwie malmsteen, steve vai, john petrucci, michael angelo batio, joe satriani then we have a simple "allan holdsworth" rather amusing aint it?
peace

wow I'm suprised that a lot of people don't know about Allan. He is an AMAZING guitarist. He's not a shred guy but more of a jazz fusion player. His lines are just insane. It might sound like a lot of noodling but if you listen to what he's playing over what chords you really can hear a lot of upper chord extensions and chromatics. His legato technique is the best that I've ever heard and like Mike said he plays sax inspired lines. If anyone ever wants to hear something different you should check that guy out. And if you really want to get more to the roots check out some sax guys like charlie parker or john coltrane that'll keep you bussy for hours lol.
