Well, in my opinion nu-metal is crap, but does anyone know the definitions of 'nu-metal'? What makes music nu-metal? I'm always thinking like: if there are no guitar-solo in it, it's nu-metal (linkin park, system of a down etc.)

If its in the metal genre but has terrible guitar parts..its Nu-Metal..simple as that ..

System Of A Down are opkay but any other nu-metal is a no-no, my definition of nu metal is metal without the talent

Most Nu-Metal is just plain old trash. Most songs aren't creative, and they're just designed to get as much airtime on the radio as possible... which is why they all sound the same.

I think that like all genres of music that get popular, it started off well but then got flooded with crap as the record companies picked up on it's popularity. I like Limp Bizkit's first album. I like KoRns early stuff. There's an amazing band called hed PE, I haven't heard their new stuff, but their album 'Broke' is a great CD imo... not so good if you want to hear technical mastery, but it's a real fusion of metal and hip-hop and it's obvious that all the members of the band have real talent at what they're doing... I really love experimental music, I suppose that's why I like that CD, it has some really unique moments.

Afaik Nu-Metal is something that combines hip-hop (rap) and metal. Like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park.
I don't like nu-metal much because there absolutely nothing good in their sound. I mean take away the vocals and all you are left with just small repeated guitar notes. That plain ***s.
Of course I do like one or two nu-metal songs but that's about it.
Btw, if Rage Against The Machine is considered nu-metal , i would say they are the best nu-metal band among all i've heard.

It seems to me that ever since Nirvana came out that music in general took I real stage dive! Everybody started taking sort cuts and focus went to power grooves and simplicity rather then mastery of an instrument. Don't get me wrong some good bands are still out there a.e. Dream Theater, but as a whole it really ***s. Bring back the late 80's and early 90's I say! Of course without the make up and hairdoes lol ;D

There are tons and tons of talented bands out there but they're just underground. Bands to check out if you havent already are. Avenged Sevenfold Children Of Bodom Shadows Fall Trivium Twilightning Outworld Thats enough for now. Im huge on the underground scene =)..

I got with em right after their first CD. They're by far my favorite band of all time. Some of the best riffing ever. And come on, the lead guitar player is young and still better than half of the shredders out there ..

Some nu-metal bands are doing songs with good lyrics , but still the music S-U-C-K-S Can you give me an example?? Nu-Metal lyrics are almost as bad as most of the stuff in the 80s when they were "I love sex" and "Lets rock all day". Now they're "You dont understand me" or "I hate the world" lol..I'm just glad me and Chase actually know how to write ..

I wish I was born in Finland or Japan. Metal (especially melodic metal) gets a lot of media attention there. *sigh*

does anyone know what "nu" is? this whole concept of nu metal is so backwards!! the idea of metal was to rebel against the popular music of its time, and nu metal's entire purpose is to BE the popular music of its time! how can you call that metal? to me, it's as bad as the backstreet boys and britney spears!!! Blasphemers

Speaking of blasphemy, Korn should be put to death for butchering The Wall.

Alright, I have to admitt I havenn't heard much new stuff. So reccommend stuff! But most of what I've heard is just good power groves with no great guitar work. Lets face it MTV is dead unless your into reality tv or rap I live in a town so small that you have to go to Sam Goodies to buy a guitar. The radio stations play country and 70's stuff and I am 30 so hearing about new music from local teens would make me look like a fool who won't grow up. Not that I hate teens it just doesnt look right to be hanging out with them at my age. And YES I do hate Nirvana! But how can you deniey Maiden, Dream Theater, Yngwie, Testament, Metal Church, Nitro, Manna war, and so on! It wasn't all lovy, dovy! And besides the really talented lets remember bands like Slayer, Obituary, Napalm death, Diacide, Cannnibal Corpse all the thrash bands of hate and evil came out in the 80's. And innspired the new.

Oh, boy, nothing to say about Nu-Metal, but that it ***s a lot. No solos, no good melodies, in short, no quality.
