Funny story. In the mid-90's, I saw a documentary on MTV called "It Came From the 80's" where they basically made fun of 80's rock/metal. It ***ed by the way, I liked 80's rock/metal/glam then and forever; I never wavered like so many.
Anyway, they did an entire segment on Dokken and while they interviewed the guys, I kind of liked the Dokken clips playing in the background, but didn't know any of the songs. So I went to Disc-go-round looking for something Dokken. They had one cd "Beast from the East" and I noticed the song "Dream Warriors" from Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and decided to buy it used. First thing I noticed was that it was a live cd (it wasn't mentioned in big print). I loved every song. Then George Lynch did "Mr. Scary" with an awesome unaccompanied solo intro. I was totally blown away and became obsessed with the band for many years. I kept the used sticker and $7.99 price on there to serve as reminder of how cool something could be for just eight bucks!

When I was 11 (1980) i was looking for Molly Hatchet - "Flirtin' With Disaster". They didn't have it so I bought the only LP there - "Take No Prisoners". Come to find out this is the only Hatchet album sung by Jimmy Ferrar who blows Danny Joe Brown lyrics out of the water. I play a few different styles & his album is truely Southern Rock at its max-

When I bought my first Symphony X cd, it came with a mini-catalog for the Inside-Out label. I noticed there were a whole bunch of cds by Devin Townsend who I knew nothing about. Based on the album cover, I bought "Terria". I couldn't believe how much I liked an artist that was soooo "unique." He screams violently then sings beautifully and writes very creative songs.
The album "Physicist" is my fave. The song "Material" has an amazing tribute to the "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" soundtrack for anyone interested. I don't know how that part fit into that song or where even the idea came from to throw that in, but it totally works!

I'm going to go with "The Triumph of Steel" by Manowar. I thought the title was cool and it was my first of many Manowar albums. It has "Agony and Ecstasy in 8 Parts" which is like a 28 minute song as the first track. David Shankle is the guitarist on it and it has some of there best tunes like, "Metal Warriors", "Ride the Dragon", and "Power of My Sword". Excellent CD! However, you forgot Master of the Wind which is a phenomenal ballad which was an inspiration to me during a rather unhappy time in my life. I also met David Shankle (briefly) at an MAB clinic that BKW and I were at 2 years ago in the Chicago area.

For me, I'd say it was Racer X's "Second Heat"

"Forged in Fire" by Anvil on TAPE back in 1983 or so, along with Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" and a Saxon album to finish. I was into metal before but that pretty much sealed the deal.....still a fan
