Personally I would say no, not more than a simple tremolo picking excersise.

No or not really is the short answer.
Personally, I have never ever practiced just to get faster. I have always been able to pick 16 notes a second so I don't really know if you can get faster or not. I started on the piano then violin and then became pretty good at the drums before finally choosing the guitar. At first I just wanted to play Metallica songs all day long so I was mainly a rhythm player. Then my father introduced me to Vinnie Moore so I went from there.
Anyway, learning a song like the Bumblebee might help your alternate picking technique however which may enable you to reach your potential if you haven't already but I wouldn't suggest learning it for that sole reason as there are probably other songs which are better candidates to learn for building technique.

Ignore the pps side of things.
The best players that can and do play fast are very clean with it. So aim for perfect synchronisation between hands whilst fretting correctly, playing in time and with even amount of force then speed will come naturally.
Once you're past the "mechanics" stage, "Flight..." is a good etude to use for practicing dynamics & articulations since, once it is under your fingers, it is a relatively simple piece to play on guitar.
