I am thinking of changing string brands. I have used D' Addario for a very long time and love the sound.. but I hate the fragileness of the High E and also want to just give something new to me ago. I am not personally into ernie ball or GHS never cared for the way they sound just a personal thing. Not against the companies or anything. I am thinking of trying the Dean Markley YJM strings... but I don't know. I use .10's. Anyone have experience with those strings or have any other suggestions?

Can't help ya there. EB Super Slinky nails it for me.
I've been curious about those YJM's too for a while now.

I cant say i've ever been too bothered by brands Erik (i've tried all the top ones and have always felt them to be very similar, i cant stand elixir though, I find them dead out of the packet), but it really is true the heavier string gauage you can cope with the better! Your tone will thank you for it for sure. Thats mainly from a rhythm guitar perspective though, and usually why a lot of virtuoso rhythm guitar tone is lacking. If my fingers could take bending 12's in E standard for instrumentals, i'd willingly do it!

I would go with either Thomastik Power Brights or RotoSound.

i prefer DR strings, the main reason i prefer them over elixir, ernie ball, and diaddario is because they go into tune very fast on the initial stringing and they stay in tune significantly better, plus they literally feel better and smoother on my finger tips, i specifically use the ddt electric strings or alexi laiho set depending on tunings

I find D'Addarios to be among the best.
The problem may be with your guitar, or possibly a lack of stretching of the string when re-stringing.
I use .008's, Ernie Ball's atm but have used D'Addarios and have NEVER had a snapped high-E.

i cant stand elixir though, I find them dead out of the packet Haha, I use elixirs and that's so true. Too lazy to restring guitars so I like long lasting, dead sounding strings lol. Doesn't matter too much because we're talking electrics. I find D'Addarios to be among the best. The problem may be with your guitar, or possibly a lack of stretching of the string when re-stringing. I use .008's, Ernie Ball's atm but have used D'Addarios and have NEVER had a snapped high-E. D'Addarios sound pretty good, Ernie Ball strings last about three days if lucky.

One funny thing was the first couple of years playing i was snapping strings every few months, but I havent snapped a string in years now! Could that be because I was originally using ernie ball and then switched to d'addario.... *spooky*

I haven't had issues with snapped high E's since I picked up guitar again, late last year....and yeah, i use D'addario's.

D'Addarios sound pretty good, Ernie Ball strings last about three days if lucky. 3 days? I must've had extremely good luck with my Ernie's then cos I've used over 100 sets and have yet to break a string. Around 98 hours of playing per set- with only extremely minimal fine tuning required at the start of practice and they sound as good as the guitar will allow them to. You can't ask more for £4.99*. * Price subject to change without notice. One funny thing was the first couple of years playing i was snapping strings every few months, but I havent snapped a string in years now! Could that be because I was originally using ernie ball and then switched to d'addario.... *spooky* Or it's because you got better at re-stringing your guitar with each try, and now perform sufficient stretching on each string to a near obsessive-compulsive level to ensure there are as few breakages as possible. Ahem *cheap bastard* ahem. There's a theory, albeit rather thin sounding, that the better a player you are, the more control you have in regards to intonation etc, the less likely you are to snap a string. I have to say it's not my theory, and I think it smells rather like BS, but it's strange how most players snap more strings in their early days than when they are accomplished players. That could also be down to the fact our ears develop as we play and we get become more discerning, especially in terms on tone, as the number of hours of practice under our belt grows so we change the strings when they sound like crap as opposed to when they finally give in to relentless tension and Satriani solos. Lol Or a mix of all 3. Completely impossible to prove either way since all go hand in hand unless you have an in-house guitar tech and have Holdsworth-esque touch and still snap strings.
