www.thezeitgeistmovement.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=28&Itemid=65#1Are any of you familiar with this? Do you agree with its components? Im not trying to start a political debate, here, I just want to know where the rest of you stand. Do you think the money system in place is flawed? Do you think the country (or the world) would run better without the need for money? What are your thoughts on a "Resource Based Economy"? Again, avoid a political debate. Blame who you want for the state of the economy. Thats not the issue Im discussing. I, for one, have never fully understand the global need for money. Money is not a source of energy. It is a source of greed. Some might call it motivation or incentive. The point is: do you really NEED money to run water? Do you really NEED money to run electricity? Or any kind of technology? No. All these things run because of technology. You dont grind up dollar bills and put them in a machine to make it work. The only reason money exists is for one thing: social classes. Without money, there would be no rich, no poor. No one would have ultimate control over anybody. No reason to commit armed robbery, identity theft, grand theft (larceny, auto). And so on, and so on.

I agree with most ideas about the Zeitgeist Movement along with what was said in the two documentaries, and I especially agree that the monetary system is flawed. I have my doubts that a resource-based economy would work, but it's a very interesting idea. The people working on that movement even admitted it would not be a perfect solution though.
Man, it's been a while since I've researched this stuff, so this brings me back. And it especially brings me back to an angrier time hahaha.

Exactly. It may not be an end-all solution to every problem, but the renewable energy plan is definitely needed.
But the problem is: who has control over renewable energy? Who is responsible for extracting the energy?
No one. The energy is completely independent. (Aside from building the structures to harness the energy)
How do you go to war over renewable energy? You can't. Anybody can use this power and no one can have dominance over another country.
And in regards to the monetary system...
One thing the system does control (besides the citizens) is supply and demand. Without the need for money, people could acquire anything they want. This would put all goods at extremely high demand and somewhat limited supply. How would you control who gets what? Maybe some sort of system could be worked out.

Yeah I've always thought it would be ridiculous say if an asteroid was heading toward earth and we simply "didn't have enough money" to stop it. I really think that scenario could happen. It's insane but we've created a world where money is just as important as the basic fundamentals of life. I'd like to get away from it all one day.
