Hello! WE have Marshall 2000 & MAB T-REX & T-REX + Armoflame MAB-1 but we can not achieve the sound like Mike's. Something is missing, maybe we need another extra device(one more pedal)? Or maybe someone can help us with the connection scheme. All answer are very appreciated Thanks

Can you describe the tone you are getting and compare it to the tone you are trying to get?

For neck tone definitely change to a passive pickup with ceramic magnet. Try his Dean signature pickup "HWS". Dime the middle knob on you amp. Have the treble at less than 50% and the presence low also, have the bass at around 50-60% (I would guess). Don't use too much gain from the amp. Have the gain at around 60% also or a little bit more or less depending on you playing style. Use the Mab Overdrive pedal to push the amp in to more overdrive. Put a good quality delay in the effect loop set at around 300 ms. Learn how to play impossible stuff with ridiculous accuracy. Then you should sound fairly similar at least

That's the way with this setup!
Reading this tips i have another question, I have DiMarzio Blaze pickups and a 5150III amp, but i don't boost the amp because i always loved that natural tubes full gain sound, but i was thinking about getting the MAB T-REX pedal for have this alternate picking compressed sound, I can get the MAB's tone with this setup?
I saw MAB was playing with a 5150III at one show...maybe the pure tone comes with the EMG pickups?
Thanks!

MAB's sound is all about boosting the high mids a lot and not use too much gain from the amp itself, rather push it with a Tubescreamer type pedal in to more overdrive. He's using high mids instead of a lot of treble and presence, which makes it cut through without sounding harsh and thin. Ideally you would want a Marshall or something with a similar voicing. EL34-based amp. Although you will get in the same ballpark of sound if you use his signature overdrive in to an amp tuned in with a lot of mids, using some delay set to around 300 ms placed in the FX-loop. For the neck pickup sound, use a fairly hot pickup with good note definition. A regular PAF style pickup would also work but his signature neck pickup has a ceramic magnet and judging from that it should be a bit different. You will never get his tone 100%. You need to be him to get that, you can only get in the same ballpark of sounds. If you want to get close I would recommend to buy all his signature stuff, pedal and pickups. The actual guitar doesn't matter as long as it's the same type of guitar. Use an amp with a EL34-based power section and preferably a Marshall style preamp also. Always use some delay on the lead sound, set to around 300 ms. For me the special thing with MAB's tone is his playing plus the pushed high mids. His playing is so clean, pushing the mids and play as clean as he does is the biggest challange, the rest is simple.

Ok thanks! Finally i'll try to boost the amp with the T-REX, i don't want to imitate 100% the same tone, but i want to take that similar compressed sound for shred when i need to go lighning fast! I want my own sound, but in alternate picking and sweeps tone, MAB is the king!!
