Hey Michael,
I'm curious. How are the sales for Intermezzo going? Is it selling as well as Hands Without Shadows did? Has Intermezzo broken the 10,000 copies mark yet? I read an article this morning about how rock album sales are at an all-time low. They blame the economy and piracy. I don't know how much economy or piracy have affected your album sales over the years but I can tell you I bought the MAB and Nitro CDs I own!!! And they were well worth the money!
I really wish Headbangers' Ball or something similar still existed as it would be nice to turn on the TV and see a show devoted to heavy metal that would play your 8 Pillars Of Steel video. Not since the Hear 'n Aid Project led by Ronnie James Dio have I heard a song with solos from so many guitarists!
I'm disheartened at how ugly many of the newer metal bands are. So few have vocalists who actually sing melodies or have instrumentals with powerful melodies and interesting guitar parts. It seems that black metal and death metal are really taking over and I miss the more melodic style of metal. Sure, there is still some around such as the Todd La Torre fromtd Queensryche, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, Black Label Society and the Arch/Matheos band, but bands like those seem greatly outnumbered these days by the black metal and death metal bands. When the true metal legends such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Queensryche, KISS, Megadeth, and Black Sabbath get too old to tour anymore, who is going to take their place as the heavy metal bands that can actually fill arenas? Going to heavy metal concerts at big arenas has been a very important part of my life ever since I was 15 years old and went to see Judas Priest on their Defenders Of The Faith Tour with opening band Great White sell out The Baltimore Civic Center! Then they came back on the second leg of their tour and sold out The 18,000 seat Capital Center in Landover, Maryland. Is there a way that this wonderful tradition can be saved for the generations to come or are we living in the final days of when a heavy metal band can go on tour with just one opening band and sell out 18,000 seat arenas?
