Okay ! am so tired of asking how michael does his techniques and blabla ! this guy is a freak of nature ! an insane shredder ! i just love him hehe !! But does anyone know how he does his tapping parts in songs like rainforest and intro of his no boundaries album ? i mean the way it sounds is so twisted and unheard of before to me ! i know he has lots of licks in his instructional dvds and i bought them all , but the way it sounds on his album is phenomenal ! any idea guys ? Thanks

I don't have any tabs or anything like that but string skipped tapping is the key. You'll have to experiment with that.

Nah man, I think you'll nail it sooner or later. Tapping is the easiest technique to get right at high speed. It can be difficult if there's complex rhythm involved, like it is in some fusion style playing but MAB's tapping is very straight forward. It's fast and melodic but not so complex.
It's cool technique to use because it sounds more difficult than it is and you can get really cool sounds.
Then there's two handed tapping also, but that is a different story.

Hi razorshred1. I have been asked this a lot. There are certain criteria that I have to get that kind of sound. First, I have to have my own guitars. That is one of the primary reasons I don't use that technique as much in clinics. The guitars in clinics are set up differently from my own and the technique is too precise to do it on anything but my instruments. Secondly, I have to use my MAB String Dampener. It is a major difference when getting the separation of notes that you hear on my records. Guthrie Govan, Greg Howe and many other great players use some kind of dampening device when tapping and so do I - mostly on records, but soon live as well. I am going to do a lesson with Metal Method showing the exact tapping ending of "No Boundaries" with more tapping lessons to follow. Thanks! I hope this helps.

Michael, please demo some tapping licks from "Science Fiction", the intro is killer!
