It's just an overdrive pedal, you can get the MAB sound with or without it.
It's just a very small part in the chain and not a crucial one.

How close will this get me to Michael Angelo batio's tone and why was this pedal discontinued ? Michael's tone is multi-faceted. One device will not duplicate his tone. Live he is turning the overdrive he uses on and off during almost every song. Amp settings, delay in the effects loop, and using both neck and bridge pickups. Guitar setup also has an effect. That said.. the biggest source of his tone is his playing technique. He uses a lot more vibrato than most people notice. As for why discontinued... MAB is now working with Tom'sline pedals, who is putting out a new series of MAB signature pedals. He is now using them live in concert. They are "Mini" (1590A sized) pedals that require a DC power source. They sound even better than the T-rex and are built better. I have one of the pre-MAB labeled ones and have compared it against the T-Rex. You get a bit more mids out of the Tom'sline. It reminds me more of a hot-rodded tube-screamer (and is only a third of the size). Not sure when they will be available for purchase. I'll find out this week if there is an expected release date.

Speaking of MAB's tone, from a range of 1 to 10 where would you turn the bass, mid, and treble tone controls on your amp to come closest to MAB's tone?
