Willjay, thanks for all your efforts.
Could you have a "clocking eye" on McLaughlin at
BTW, never heard MAB or Lane, as great as they are, soloing over a 15/16 signature like John. And on acoustic he's untouchable, even Lane told me that. Who else can play that intro

Funny thing is that from the way he picks and the tone it makes me think he had an influence on Shawn Lane.

+ 1 on Yngtchie.
Even if you can get it to 4 million notes per second, what use is it to play 1 note that fast?

(funny how keyboardist gayle moran (aka chick chorea's wife) keeps on singing though she realizes that her voice is barely audible)

"Good People in Times of Evil" & "Icon" are 2 of my top 5 Lane albums.
It's easier to ask "Who ISN'T influenced by John McLaughlin?" as opposed to "Who IS influenced by John McLaughlin?".
I'm not influenced by him, he ***s!

I've seen John McLaughlin 4 times, and he really is amazing. I really prefer him live to his albums. The first time I saw him was with on a tour he did around 1986 with The Mahavishnu orchestra. I didn't really know much about him but an older kid at school who was really into music told me about it so he and his brother took me to see the show. It's interesting that they were so into Mclaughlin because both he and his brother mostly listened to metal and had amazing collections of rare tapes of shows from everything from bands like Deep Purple and Rainbow to thrash metal. Doom metal was their favorite though ( we live in what is considered the doom metal capitol of the world ) and his brother used to do sound for shows and later on produced albums for some doom bands. That was a great show although at times the electric violin was a little too loud in the mix, sometimes making it hard to hear the guitar. It was the only show where I got to see him play distorted electric guitar. It had two necks - one with 6 strings and the other with 12 strings.
The second time I saw him was just him and a bass player. John was playing acoustic guitar and it was an interesting combination with the electric bass. They traded off so many solos that night it was incredible - my favorite of the 4 shows. He wasn't playing Indian music that night; they just played jazz and it was in a small nightclub called Blues Alley so you could walk right up near the stage and watch them. Being able to see him play incredible solos that close up was really a unique experience. The bass player played amazing solos as well.
The third show was Remember Shakti, which was very impressive even though it wasn't a style of music I would want to listen to very often. The musicians were all incredibly talented though. The last time I saw him was my least favorite. It was just 2 or 3 years ago and he was playing through something that I guess you could call a guitar synthesizer. It gave kind of a bland tone. My friends I was with all agreed that they liked him better with a regular acoustic or electric guitar. It was still a decent show but the other 3 shows were great.

The 15nps part is from Crying in the Rain. Sykes also has a sick diminished alt. picking run in the song 'Ptolemy' of his Blue Murder CD.

Crying In The Rain? I didn't know it was that fast. That's pretty cool. And the Blue Murder albums were very cool. I always thought Riot had some pretty fast picking.

For the sake of speed, here it is the mostestestetest famous guitarist on earth: Tiago della Vega. Hallowed be thy name:
And now, for something completely different: How are all of you? It has been long since my last post guys... Glups, i think my english is poorer now. Heck, the lack of practice lately.

@ Vonnie- I thought you were in hiding. Spain winning the Ero was great wasn't it? Lol. At least 2 of Spain's 3 best players in the tournament are Catalunyan. That TDV vid has been posted before. It has been doctored to sound better. Your English is still better than mine.......
@ Glassyx- As a general rule, Willie doesn't clock too much anymore unless it's a known player he hasn't clocked or if he wants to do some myth debunking.

If you have someone you want clocking then post it. He may clock it if it's a player he hasn't clocked yet.
You don't know til you try.

Well there's some pretty fast picking at the solo of this song at 4:23. The guitarist[Doug Aldrich] has played with Dio and Bad Moon Rising too, and has been on a lot of tribute albums, so he's a moderately big name. Thanks in advance, Willjay man

EDIT: LMAO! No i don't think so but it's faster than his alternate picking speed (no sh).

Apologies for not being round here much lately, i've litterally been working on several Lane projects... morning, day, and night lately.... i need 50 hour long days to try and get through all that i'm trying to do at the moment.... but when i'm done, with all of the projects i'm working on, there'll be some nice things to show for it (to everyone). For anyone who's asked me to clock clips lately, real sorry if i missed any, just gimme a couple of weeks and i'll try and get back to doing some.
