First of all, hi to everyone
As there're many experienced players in this forum I wanted to ask for a little help concerning a problem of mine:
Michael mentions to absolutely avoid the "banana" and mostly I've got no problem with this but ironically my fret-hand's thumb is doing the banana heavily whenever I'm going "forward" with my frethand (to play stuff like barré chords, and basicly everything except basic chords).
As I'm doing the banana, I'm putting pretty much preassure on my thumb's first joint and it starts aching.Unfortunately, I'm a bit stuck, since I don't really trust in my own ability to get rid of the problem: trying to avoid the banana feels so awkward to me...
So here's my question: cpuld you guys give me some hints how to avoid putting heavy preassure on you f-hand's thumb without cutting it off? Thank you in advance!

Try for like 10 min a day to play without Your thumb touching the neck at all. Then You'll slowly use less tension on the neck. Oh and welcome aboard

Try for like 10 min a day to play without Your thumb touching the neck at all. Then You'll slowly use less tension on the neck. Thats kind of what I did, except indirectly... I was trying to get more range between my fingers and I ended up looking for ways to better position my thumb to allow this range... I never actually played with my thumb fully off the neck, however, I just looked for places on it that let me get better access to upper and lower registers of the neck. This lead to better thumb placement, and better "pressure application", I guess. Hope this helps.

Thanks Blondie for giving me the hint, at the moment I'm playing lots of stuff without my thumb touching the neck, this enables me to actually start practicing again. Thanks a lot Blondie
