Well. lately i've decided to stop playing fast and clean up my picking.
I've started with a metronome. my picking is improving, but sometimes i just lose interest 'cause i'm doing very repedative things. is there any way to make practicing with a metronome more interesting?

Instead of a metronome, use a drum machine or a midi drum sequencing program. Digtech makes a unit called the RP50 that can be purchased for under $100 US that has some great drum patterns in it. You can jam along to interesting beats. You would still be using "quantized" tempo's but having drum patterns versus the "tick, tick, tick," of a metronome will make practicing much more fun. Hope this helps.

Yesterday i found a program called transcribe. you can slow a song down and speed it up, at similar intervals like a metronome. i was jamming along to some music like this and it made it so much more fun! you can even transpose a song! so if your tuned in standard and the song you wanna jam along with in eb tuning, you can put the mp3 in standard!
But i will also invest in that digitech program. i need a good program for creating drum beats!

It's hard to stay focused on one thing for a long time in your playing but being single minded on a couple things during a practice session will yield a lot of results. Even if the click click click gets more annoying just *** it up and youll be able to go for longer the next practice session.

I've never really used one with guitar, grew up with music and always had a drummer available.
I have used one with my trumpet playing though when I was just getting into symphony.
