Since I've had to play pretty quietly most of the time here at university I've noticed that my high e is a LOT quieter than my other strings. Sometimes when it's down really low the other strings are actually quite loud but when i get on the high e it sounds as if it isn't even plugged in. It happens less on the neck pickup than the bridge, but it's still noticable. I never noticed it at home when I can actually play louder but it's really offputting when I have to play quietly here Is this normal? Anything I can do about it? (Except just turning the volume up of course... because that would lead to me being beaten to death by a bunch of students who are trying to revise/sleep)

Try to either lower or raise the bridge pickup at the trebleside. If it's too low the distance will be too far to pick up the signal. If it's too high there will be magnetic poll wich will "kill" the strings vibration.

I thought that might have something to do with it. I JUST had a setup done though, shouldn't they have checked this sort of thing? Oh well, I'll have to go buy a screwdriver I suppose... mine are all at home, I didn't to bring them up to uni :/ Didn't think I'd need to tweek anything. Oh well, cheers Blondie

Normally a setup is stuff like trussrod adjustment, intonation, action and the likes... it's not that hard to adjust the pup-hight

You've clearly never seen me with a screwdriver... deadly combination! I will most likely be back for further instructions once I've got hold of one ;D

I lowered mine slightly after Blondie explained and it's perfect now. The guide Clameo posted is helpful if you're having problems Du4n

I know you've fixed the prob now succubus, but just thought i'd say in case others have problems that the pickup scrws dont solve- Ypu can adjust the heights of each individual pole piece if the worst comes to the worst But it measn getting the pup out of the guitar ;D

Not if You railtype pups and most singlecoils don't have adjustable polepieces either.

mostly EMG and some stocks pickups has the screws adjusting but those with a bar pole you are not able to adjust them so you have to just raise or lower the pickup at the bottom or at top(low end strings)
