So I've been to try out a baby dean ml today, damn that's a beautiful guitar ;D It had the ***tiest strings I ever did see on it though, I actually had rust all over my fingers when I was done, which made it kind of hard to judge how nice it played. The guy only had a silver one and I've decided to go for the purple, and he also wants £229 for it, which is about £70 or £80 more than I can get it for online... so I've still got a bit of a wait Just had to grumble!! He didn't believe I've only been playing since Feb at first though, he said "you dont finger like that after 4 months!!! Do you play another instrument?" So I told him about my cello. I was well chuffed, so I just had to brag too ;D

Ah, so the random website I found about the sale of body parts lied to me!!
So back on topic a bit here, someone in the USA is selling them (guitars that is, not kidneys) on ebay for a LOT cheaper than I can get them here, ($200 + $65 shipping, so about £146 as opposed to £229 in the shop) but I am a bit worried that there would be an import charge and I have no idea how much that would be. The customs website was not helpful ("The amount of import duty depends on the size and value of the item." ...Duh, thanks for that). Ebay guy said "it would probably be fairly small". Well he would say that, he wants to sell the bloody thing. So really what I'm asking is has anybody in the UK bought a guitar from the states and if so how much did customs charge you? And then of course there's 17.5% VAT too...
I think in the end it might be easier to get one a wee bit more expensive but locally, if something goes wrong I can always take it back. Plus I can probably get the price down a bit and/or get some goodies thrown in if I get it local. Any thoughts? :/

Thanks NotGuest, they list the same price as the ebay shop but there's still the import problem I think I'll probably try bartering locally first and if I can't get a decent deal I'll most likely go with basstreble, cheers

wow a $200 dollar guitar.. a real dream come true..where do you put the batteries? What's that supposed to mean? Not everyone has ***loads of money to spend on guitars, I just finished doing a degree and have almost £20k debt because of it so it is a big deal to me to be able to get any kind of guitar at the moment.

There are many good guitars for small money, the problem is mostly the electronics and the hardware wich can be swapped for better part as money allows. And Deans pups aren't the baddest around. I have a expencive handmade guitar, a Ibanez Jem and a Dean Vendetta. And though the Vendetta ain't as good as the Jem it's still a great guitar. And I'll buy a Baby ML one day too. About import tax... Since I live in EU also I think the rules are the same when buying from the US... For musical instruments it's 3 or 3,5%... Item price + Shipping + 3 (or 3,5)% import tax + Local Tax 17,5% = Your Price. Then You'll proberbly let FedEx (or who ever handles shipping) make all the paperwork. FedEx in Denmark charges around Euro 10,- if I remember correctly. Hope this helps.

I'M an American Expat. And when I have my family mail me something its always some ungodly amount.. like $30 for a shoe size box. and if I mailed it through one of my friends through the american postal service on a miltary base it would be about $12.. German mail System really rapes you.. plus sometimes they have opened the box to be nosy about the contents and then sloppily taped it back shut..(on a side note.. Blondie how do you say 'thank you' 'please' and your welcome' in Danish? I'm trying to find common relations in all the germanic and subgermanic languages..

Sorry.. I guess I just read it wrong.. it just seemed like a lot of jubilance over a $200 guitar. That's because I've been looking forward to it for months while I've been doing my exams. It's actually a $349 guitar list price btw. Just because it's not the most expensive guitar on the planet doesn't mean I shouldn't be excited about it :/ Thanks Blondie, that was useful I thought it was 3.5% when I looked on the customs site but it wasn't so clear.

Agreed, my very first guitar (a westbury standard) cost me like two hundred quid, but its incredibel, i mena it. The pickups ar eso good you cna literally play anything on it, the tone is beautiful. alot of BC RICHs are cheap but excellent guitars.
