Succubus, from my experience, when buying things such as guitars from America you can usually expect to pay about 90% of the original price on top of what it costs due to VAT import duty, handling fees etc. These costs usually ansure that you cannot save any money by buying these products from overseas and having them shipped to you. There are ways around it of course (fake receipts underpricing the goods so the VAT percentage costs are innacurate) but these are illegal and so most sellers would not have any part in this.
It ***s I know but it works the other way around too. Just look at the price of Marshall amps over in the US compared to Britain. They pay far more as they are manufactured here.

I decided against importing it, gone with the local guy where I tried it out. He is going to get me the purple one, and gave me a very good price in the end. He also threw in a gigbag, a set up and new strings. And he'll check it out for free after 6 weeks to check it's all still in good nick

Ok, well good luck with that and I hope the guitar is everything you expected it to be. I know what you mean about the debt thing, I too have just finished my degree and have a mass of debt to shift before I can even think about spending anything on equipment. It ***s

If they like you and your buisness they'll make sure you like thier service. This is why I'm at the local guitar center 3-6 times a week. I just stop in and say high, see what's new, play around a bit, chat it up, and make sure everything's good. When my brother bought his martin 000CXE i got him a martin hardcase included, new strings of his choice, and the shaved the bridge to lower the action AND get his $200 off the sticker price and they paid the tax. So he walked out the door paying $550 for what's now a $800 guitar. Not bad if I may say so. I hope you have many loving years with your dean. And at the same time I hope you ourgrow it as soon as possible. Although I love my first ibanez I've outgrown it musically and see many flaws in the design and construction, but that doesn't stop me from playing it alot. It's my baby, my first. There is just a certain respect there for it. I wish the same for you. Oh, and cello's absolutlly rock. I want to learn someday.

The place I'm buying it is unfortunately not really close enough to class as my local guitar shop. And the guy is moving up to Scotland in a few months so the place will be either going to new owners or closing down. There's a Les Paul specialist very close by though and the guys in there seem great. I was in to get my LP set up few weeks ago and ended up chatting for quite a while. They have teachers working for them too so I've been thinking of getting some lessons and getting "in" with them Thanks for the nice words And if you want to learn cello don't put it off, they're great! ;D
