Altough many people say this movie is bad, I think it's absolutely perfect in its own genre. Not any of the disaster/invasion films was so great and atmospheric. Maybe it's even useless that I say anything 'cause I couldn't remember and say all I would want to. Nevertheless, I must say what I have on my mind right now. Firstly, 'crew' arrival in form of a lightning. It's unforgettable! A shiver ran over my back when they looked trough the window at the lightning that striked 3 times per second - on the same spot! I awed at that! When a tripod came out of the street for the first time and sounded that weird sound... Man... A perfect, bizarre sound! And it started killing people without mercy. I could really imagine myself in the Ray's place. That feeling when somebody's chasing you and you can't hide. I really like that the whole movie is from the point of view of ordinary dad which is not a world hero, fighting aliens and saving the world. It's just dad which only cares about his daughter's survival. Little Dakota amazed me! I haven't seen a better child actor/actress in my life. Cruise also didn't dissapoint. To make it short, film is atmospferical pinnacle. Different from all other disaster/invasion films. It presented and alien invasion in a unique, original way. The way it would look in the eyes of the ordinary people, not some millitary forces.

It is a good film. But there was a really bad part to it. It didnt show clearly how the machines for defeated. Im sure it left alot of people thinking "What the hell, how did they die"

Explanation about aliens dying:
!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!
Select with your mouse to read:
They eated/drank food and drinks from Earth, including human blood. Earth's food, drink and human blood contain all sorts of bacterias. Alien's organisms weren't capable of protecting from it, and they got diseased, and eventually died from it.

I enjoyed the movie myself, and I thought the ending was pretty clear. At least at the end. When the aliens start dying, you are indeed, as somebody here eloquently put it, "What the hell?!?". But Darth Vader explains at the end how they died. No joke .

I went to see it last night and i really loved it! I want to go and see it again in a bigger cinema! ;D I like the way they placed some retro features in the movie, like the sound the tripods make, and the way they use a `death ray` kind of weapon instead of the usual kind of lasers that are normally used in modern sci fi movies! But Darth Vader explains at the end how they died. No joke . I think you mean Morgan Freeman, not James Earl Jones....also, I never got really why the hell the aliens were spreading all those plant looking things around everywhere that they were spraying with our processed blood....they never explained what the purpose was, perhaps they produce chemicals they need to survive on much like we need oxygen from "our" plant life....dunno I also didn't get the significance of the birds flying around one of the tripods at the end, it looked like they made it fall over or something, but what do they need birds helping out for, if organisms in our water killed them?

Just think of all the diseases the stupid aliens would get. everything from the common cold to AIDS. You'd think if the aliens can build huge destructive tri-pods. they would've at least considered the diseases.

Definately something I considered, they plan for millions, if not over a billion years ahead of time to wipe us out, are extremely advanced and are able to travel across the galaxy, planned down to the very smallest detail like burying their stuff in our backyard and shooting down in lightning causing an EMP disturbing our electricity basically cutting everything and everyone off, and have weapons that rip through everything like paper and evaporate us leaving behind nothing but our clothes, but it's the friggin microscopic organisms that killed them, yeah they wouldn't think of it...HOWEVER despite this I loved the movie.
