Religion is an obvious way to control people. e.g 'do this or go to hell'. It's the ultimate in surreptitious totalitarianism.

im somewhere between atheist and agnostic. i really dont like the idea of religion, cuz all it does it control people. i dont really believe there is a god, but i also cant think of how something like life is possible. just think about how nature works and your body and physics and all that stuff. i dont think god is any kind of being, cuz theres no way a being could create this. it could be just some thing out in space or sumthin...who knows?

Here's the thing in my oppionon. I don't think you have to be controled by relgion at all. See evrything we see, touch and feel is a matter of faith that that thing is as we perceive it. As is any gods / goddesses that we think might have had influnce over creation. Relgion is also a matter of faith. We have no way to prove or disprove any one persons theories regarding relgion. There for it is an act of faith to believe anything and what we believe is our perception of things. Now the bigger question would be. Who are you going to believe? Is anyone theory completely correct? I don't believe that one holds the key to it all. As long as you follow the law of man, do your best, be kind, and have an open and examining mind then I believe that we should have the freedom to develop our personal relationship, with what we percieve and feel is the proper path to our best standards. I could go on into each thing and give my own perception, but that could be very long, LOL!!!!

I agree, Erik, that religion is a matter of faith. I believe in God and Jesus. I am Catholic. But i dont go to church each Sunday. Im not the most devout Catholic. But what you should really care about is your beliefs. Religion should not be something that consumes your life. It should be a release from the stress of life. Adji, some of the bible stories, well, many many of them dont seem like they are plausible. But, they are there to provide a moral that applies to eeveryday life. Do unto others as youd have done to you, what has been lost has now been found, so rejoice, etc. Many many truths withing the stories. Read deeply into them, you'll see what I mean. The stories can be very uplifting. Plus, they can make some very cool lyrics for songs, as long as it wouldn't anger God i'd like to try that. For instance, check out Creeping Death by Metallica. Classic story of Moses freeing the Hebrews from slavery out of Egypt to the Promised Land.

Hmm, I don't exactly believe or disbelieve that there is a God, as long as I can't see God with my own eyes I'll never know. Faith is about believing even without seeing, religion is for idiots, more people have died from religious beliefs than for any other reason. There are too many things in this world that make me think there may be a God. I've always had questions that just boggled my mind, like if there is a God, how did he come to be? If the universe was created by God, or created from a "Big Bang" like scientists theorize, then what the hell was here before the universe? A big nothing? The idea that the universe, and time is 'infinate' doesn't seem possible, but neither does the idea of them being created and have a life span.....perhaps these questions will never be answered.

I don't have a religion, my parent believe in God and Jesus, but science proved to me that there's no god or whatever. History showed us that religion leads to war and destruction, but that's just my opinion.

I agree, religion causes wars and death. For instance, Crusades for the Holy Land. Thats why I'm not a religious radical. I just believe that there is God and Jesus. We must've been created somehow!

I believe there is a God, that created life and what not, but I don't stick to a certain religion because I have no way of knowing the "right" one. Basicly, I like to keep my options open

Adji, if you're an atheist ,why would Stigmata interest you? That's a very religious topic. It's something you want to discuss with each other, so we'll leave this thread running for awhile as long as everyone respects the fact that each person decides in their own hearts what their realtionship with their creator is. To judge each other is not our right or purpose with this topic. i really dont know, it jsut does. its like, i hate science but im very interested in certain aspects like space and quantum physics. i dont like to read but i love the language.

religions have very little to do with god. i believe in god but religions seem to base themselves far more on control then they do on god. hypocrisy plagues all the worlds major religions, and more blood has been shed in the "name" of god then for any other reason in mankinds history. basing ones life on texts and beliefs written centuries ago by MEN whose motives no one can truly know is insane. what truly happened back then no one will ever truly know. and even if the texts were once written truly the have been bastardized by centuries of tampering and changing to make them "fit" the times. personally speaking i know there is a god, i cannot explain how, i dont need a religions approval or direction to live my life. i live my life with honour, and respect toward myself and others and thats enough for me and my god. i dont believe god has given mankind a handbook on life, i think we are meant to figure it out on our own, its kinda the point . those who believe or follow religions please do not take anything i say as a flame towards you or your beliefs, everyone is entitled to believe as you wish. just spelling out my beliefs.
